"Doctor, there’s hardly any pain." William Allred, DDS, withdrew the little mirror with the long handle from inside the mouth of Evelyn Gosset. "These infections are painless at first," he said gravely. "Steadily they become more painful. That tooth must come out." "But it’s only six months since you put in that gold filling." "Periodontal disease has nothing to do with fillings, Evelyn." The dental assistant handed William Allred a long needle. He held the needle up to the light, checking out the anesthetic. Evelyn Gosset nervously eyed the needle. "Doctor, that gold filling was expensive." "It would cost more now." "But I don’t need a filling now" "It’s unfortunate," William Allred replied, his sugary voice disguising the contempt he felt for this society woman, "however infections happen." Evelyn Gosset eyes followed the white gloved hand that brought the needle closer and closer to her mouth. The young dentist always made her feel helpless and slightly hypnotized. "It just seems like such a waste," she whispered.

Jersey is the most southerly of the Channel Isles. It has an area of 44.87 square miles and is situated about 100 miles southward from Weymouth and only 14 miles west of Normandy. Capital is St. Hélier.
x Neanderthal Men inhabited Jersey's caves about 100,000 years before Christ and the Iberians of about 2,000 B.C. left seven Dolmens or chamber tombs. But to us, les vrais Jèrriais, "history" stems from the annexation of the island by the Norman Dukes. Of the early Dukes of Normandy, only one, Robert I, visited Jersey when he sought refuge on the isle of Gersui during a violent tempest en 1029. It was his son who became William the Conqueror. When William the Conqueror died in 1087 he bequeathed Normandy to his eldest son Robert, and England to his second son William Rufus. Robert however sold or pledged the Cotentin and the Channel Islands for £3,000 to the third brother Henry. But in 1106 Henry overthrew Robert and made himself Duke of Normandy. Henry I died in Normandy in 1135.

    Milt Gossett Advertising Workshop
The Milt Gossett Advertising Workshop introduces advertising and liberal arts college students with demonstrated talent and interest to the world of advertising. Through visits to agencies of various sizes, the students are exposed to the range of approaches, different creative and management philosophies and actual functioning of the agencies to enhance the students' understanding of the advertising and creative process.
    About the Workshop
Six college students who show outstanding talent in their completed assignments will be invited to New York City in the spring for an all-expenses-paid, two-and-a-half day trip, including travel, hotel and meals, where they will meet with top executives at some of New York's most influential advertising agencies.
Students will be given the opportunity to see how top creative teams and management approach creative problems, work with clients and convince clients that their creative work will perform effectively in the marketplace. They will tour agency facilities and discuss creative concepts and the advertising business. They will meet the leaders of the industry and get a private glimpse into the heart of advertising.
Three participating schools will each send one professor and two student representatives selected by their professor for an early April visit to New York City.

    Student's T Distribution
The t distributions were discovered by William S. Gosset in 1908. Gosset was a statistician employed by the Guinness brewing company which had stipulated that he not publish under his own name. He therefore wrote under the pen name ``Student.'' These distributions arise in the following situation. Suppose we have a simple random sample of size n drawn from a Normal population with mean and standard deviation . Let denote the sample mean and s , the sample standard deviation. Then the quantity has a t distribution with n -1 degrees of freedom. Note that there is a different t distribution for each sample size, in other words, it is a class of distributions. When we speak of a specific t distribution, we have to specify the degrees of freedom . The degrees of freedom for this t statistics comes from the sample standard deviation s in the denominator of equation The t density curves are symmetric and bell-shaped like the normal distribution and have their peak at 0. However, the spread is more than that of the standard normal distribution. This is due to the fact that in formula , the denominator is s rather than . Since
