N-Z Introduction Histories concerning children and adults with disabilities in the Middle East and South Asia have been rather neglected by both local and distant historians and other interested parties - whether histories of disabled people's education and social life, the services and disservices done to them, their own contributions to knowledge and to society, the social ambience, concepts and beliefs that have darkened or lightened their lives, differentiation between categories of impairment, or between children, women and men, and many other aspects of life. The paucity of formal, focused scholarship on disability history in the Middle East and South Asia may give the impression that little or no relevant source material is available. Such a view is mistaken. The same might have been said 20 years ago about disability in the Classical Mediterranean civilisations; but materials have been found and scholarly works have begun to appear on disability in Greek and Roman literature and iconography, with fascinating insights into the lives of societies that influenced later European civilisations. The next 20 years should see a similar rise in published disability histories in the Middle East and South Asia, using sources from antiquity through to the 20th century. Øada Laplaceových biografií tvrdí, že jeho rodièe byli "chudí zemìdìlci" nebo "sedláci", ale toto tvrzení není pøesné. V Laplaceovì rodinì se nevyskytoval nikdo, kdo by mìl akademické vzdìlání, snad kromì strýce, který na støední škole vyuèoval matematiku. Od svých 7 do 16 let Laplace navštìvoval pøevorskou školu øádu Benediktýnù v Beaumont-en-Auge . Jeho otec doufal, že Pierre se stane duchovním nebo dùstojníkem v armádì, což byla obvyklá kariéra dìtí z pøevorské školy. Když bylo Pierrovi 16 let, zaèal studovat teologii na Univerzitì v Caen. 12.1 Vorbemerkung Die Technische Hochschule München wurde 1868 unter dem Namen "Königlich Bayerische Polytechnische Schule München" gegründet und erst 1877 in "Königlich Bayerische Technische Hochschule" umbenannt. Otto Hesse 12.3 Klein und Brill (1875-1884) Erlanger Programm Felix Klein Jedes Semester boten Klein und Brill mathematische Spezialvorlesungen und Seminare an. Damit zogen sie auch nichtbayerische Studenten an, darunter Luigi Bianchi (1856-1928), Gregorio Ricci-Gurbastro (1853-1925), Adolf Hurwitz (1859-1919), Hermann Wiener (1857-1939), wie auch die noch zu erwähnendenen bayerischen Studenten Anton Edler von Braunmühl, Joseph Gierster, Karl Rohn und Walther Dyck. Durch die Tätigkeit von Klein und Brill wurde "aus der mathematischen Provinzstadt [München] für wenige Jahre ein Zentrum mathematischer Forschung und Lehre in Deutschland" (Ulf Hashagen). Besonders Klein pflegte eine enge Zusammenarbeit mit Fachvertretern der Ingenieurwissenschaften, auch durch Schaffung des Mathematischen Kränzchens, das erst die Nationalsozialisten abwürgten. Im Jahre 1905, lange nach seinem Weggang aus München, wurden seine Leistungen mit der Verleihung des Grades Dr.-Ing. h.c. von der TH München gewürdigt. Klein schrieb: " Überhaupt habe ich mich in München nach den Vorbereitungsjahren in Erlangen zur eigentlichen mathematischen Individualität durchgearbeitet"
