Peter Barlow (1776 - 1862) britischer Physiker Peter Barlow wurde am 13. Oktober 1776 in Norwich geboren. Er befasste sich unter anderem mit der Zahlentheorie und untersuchte die magnetischen Kräfte von elektrischen Strömen. Von 1827 bis 1832 konstruierte er Speziallinsen (meist achromatische Zerstreuungslinsen) für astronomische Fernrohre ( Barlow-Linsen ). Ab 1833 kombinierte er für seine Linsen Kron- und Flintglas. Er erfand das Barlowsche Rad zur Demonstration der von Magnetfeldern auf elektrische Ströme ausgeübten Kräfte. Am 1. document.write(""); BARLOW, PETER British ‘Pharmacopoeia, which is of value as a demulcent and emollient drink in febrile and inflammatory disorders. Culiivation.—Apart ‘from the growth-habits of the plant itself, the consideration that chiefly determines the routine of barley cultivation isthe demand on the part of the maltster for uniformity of sample. Less care is required in its cultivation when it is intended for feeding live-stock. It is essential that the grains on the maltster’s floor should germinate simultaneously, hence at the time of reaping, the whole crop must be as nearly as possible in the same stage of maturity. On rich soils the crop is liable to grow too rapidly and yield a coarse, uneven sample, consequently the best barley is grown on light, open and preferably calcareous soils, while if ‘the condition of the soil is too high it is often reduced by growing wheat before the barley. Barley is liable to smut and the other fungus diseases which attack wheat (q.v.), and the insect pests which prey on the two plants are also similar. The larvae of the ribbon-footed corn-fly (Chiorops iaeniopus) caused great injury to the barley crop in Great Britain in 1893, when the plant was weakened by extreme drought. A fair crop of barley yields about 36 bushels ,(56 lb to the bushel) per acre, but under the best conditions 40 and 50 bushels may be obtained. The yield of straw is from 15 to 20 cwt. per acre. Barley-straw is considered inferior both as fodder and litter.

She caught young Ken Barlow's eye and he pursued her for several months. Valerie was nervous about Ken, she felt that Ken would not be happy with her because he was university-educated and aspired to live above the working-class values which Valerie was comfortable with. She felt for Ken when his mother Ida was killed. When Ken proposed to her, she balked because she was unsure of Ken's motives and thought that he might be seeking a mother figure to replace Ida. Ken persuaded her that this was not the case, and they were married on 4 August 1962 at St. Mary's Parish Church. Ken sold his motor scooter to raise funds, and the newlyweds moved into No 9 Coronation Street when they returned from their honeymoon in London. Peter's area of math focus tended to be in Number Theory. In 1806 he became the Mathematical Master at Woolwich Academy, a position he held for forty-one years. His early works were published in the 'Ladies Diary' in 1801, he soon became a well known mathematician and began publishing his articles for encyclopedias. Contributions: Elementary Investigation of the Theory of Numbers 1811 The Barlow Tables were published In 1814. When initially released, these tables were called 'New Mathematical Tables. The tables give factors, squares, cubes, square roots, reciprocals and hyperbolic logarithms of all numbers from 1 to 10 000. Peter Barlow was known for his attention to detail and accuracy. The tables were used repeatedly and were reprinted several times. If not for computers and calculators, they would be used today due to their accuracy. In fact, they are still available!
