The overall aim of EURASIP Journal on Applied Signal Processing (EURASIP JASP) is to bring science and applications together with emphasis on practical aspects of signal processing in new and emerging technologies. It is directed as much at the practicing engineer as at the academic. EURASIP JASP will highlight the diverse applications of signal processing and encourage a cross-fertilization of techniques. All papers should attempt to bring theory to life with practical simulations and examples. Tutorial articles on topics of interest are also welcomed. EURASIP JASP employs paperless, electronic review process to foster fast and speedy turnaround in review process. There are two different issues: regular issues and special issues. The regular issues publish collections of papers without special solicitation. The special issues have specifically aimed and targeted topics of interest contributed by authors responding to a particular Call-for-Papers or by invitation, edited by invited guest editor(s). Regular papers can submitted at any time, while special issue papers can be submitted only based on planned schedules and submission guidelines of the Call-for-Papers. Proposals for special issues can be submitted directly to Editor-in-Chief.

Modern diagnostic and patient monitoring equipment increasingly relies on sophisticated digital signal processing techniques. Signal processing has also become a fundamental research tool in many areas of medicine and physiology. The Institute of Sound and Vibration Research now offers a series of course modules designed for the practitioners, clinicians, clinical or biomedical scientists, technologists, researchers, postgraduates and others who wish to extend their professional training into this area of technology, though they may have little background in engineering, mathematics or computing.

    Research Leaders
Prof. Burgess (Digital VLSI and Signal Processing Architectures) Vision "The Centre will perform inter-disciplinary research in high speed and high frequency data transmission technology" Strategy This group is in a unique position to tackle problems incurred by the unprecedentedly high data throughput required by future third generation (3G) and fourth generation (4G) wireless telecommunication. In the high frequency area, led by Professor Tasker, establishment of the UK's only microwave time domain measurement facilities will allow, for the first time, a thorough investigation of transistor non-linear effects on amplifier/system performance at both handset and base station power levels. Solutions to present and future wireless transmission problems will also require an improved understanding of the interaction between digital baseband signal processing and analogue RF power amplification. These problems, and others concerned with the provision of new architectures for very high speed VLSI signal processing, will be tackled in the baseband signal processing area, led by Professor Lever. Professor Burgess's research is focussed on the VLSI implementation of low-power application-specific processors, examples including cryptography acceleration and arithmetic special function generation. Research is also planned in other technologies critical to providing the high data rates expected in future IT systems, such as novel high-performance A/D converters, alternative number systems for increased efficiency data processing, and high-performance application-specific architectures.

An outline of the basic principles of DSP (Digital signal processing),including tutorials and Java applets illustrating DSP techniques.
    http://www.dsptutor.freeuk.com/
W ELCOME TO MY DSP tutorial. DSP stands for Digital Signal Processing - the basis of many areas of technology, from mobile phones to modems and multimedia PCs. DSP devices account for a significant proportion of worldwide semiconductor sales, amounting to billions of dollars annually. DSP is traditionally a highly mathematical subject, and the standard DSP textbooks contain a lot of mathematical exposition. This is necessary for a profound understanding of the subject. However, many people just want a simple introduction to the basic concepts and techniques of DSP. This site aims to provide just that. The site arose from an introductory DSP course I used to teach a few years ago. I am no longer actively involved in DSP, but I have kept the site going because I still receive appreciative messages from people who have found it helpful. I hope that by reading this material, and trying out the Java applets, you will gain a basic appreciation of what DSP is about. If you want to learn more about DSP, try visiting the
