Department Objectives Classics programs have two related aims: first, to provide a solid background to the cultures of ancient Greece and Rome through written documents, including historical and literary sources, and archaeological evidence; and second, to train students to read and interpret texts in ancient Greek and Latin. The Modern Language programs provide a stimulating intellectual milieu for learning and strengthening skills in critical thinking, language proficiency, intercultural understanding, literary studies and contemporary approaches to modern languages and cultures, particularly German, Italian, and Hispanic. Linguistics is the scientific study of the human language faculty. Teaching and research in the Linguistics programs focus on two areas: linguistics as a branch of cognitive science, encompassing fields such as syntax, phonology and language acquisition; and the nature of language change, with particular emphasis on the Indo-European language family. ... random pages hi! i'm emily and this is the place where you can get sucked into my fascinating life. 01/05/03 - update dudes, since i'm just about out of time with the uw server, i'm already shifting my webpage over to another free site. maybe in the future when i get some money i'll pay for a site that gives me as good of benefits as the uw server, alas, until then, the new page is here . it's got a few bugs to work out but if in the odd chance anyone actually looks at my page...there it is. these pages on this server will be deleted in a week or so. hasta, amigos. =) 01/04/03 - the new year well, my roommate's two sisters are just about to end up their visit. i've gotten drunk more in the past week than i have in two years. =) new year's eve we went to a foam party which i thought was going to be ultra lame but actually after a few drinks it was surprisingly funny. i could've done with out the drunk barneys (if you'll forgive a little clueless speak). last night, well, i'll skip right past the first thing we did, heh heh heh. we ended up at rickshaw, an awesome karaoke club/bar/chinese restaurant where we proceeded to get drunk off our asses. great fun all around. emily's new year's resolution: HAVE MORE FUN!

This page contains the following information: The recent history of Natural Language Learning Language Learning is the primary focus of a entire subdiscipline of Psychology, viz. Psycholinguistics, and has always been an arena for experimentation in the Artificial Intelligence Machine Learning community. More recently still, relevant work is being pursued in the emerging connectionist movement, and Natural Language Learning (NLL) is in addition proving to be a natural outgrowth of current work in statistical, information-theoretic and corpus-based methods in Computational Linguistics. The last five years have seen NLL sessions, workshops and symposia under auspices as varied as COLING (The Unfinished Language, 90), DARPA (90/91), AAAI (MLNLO/CNLP, 91/93), IJCAI (NLL, 91) and ECML (Machine Learning and Text Analysis, 93), although the history of NLL goes back at least a couple of decades.

90. Enochian Linguistics
Analytical work on the properties of the Angelic language.
http://members.aol.com/AJRoberti/enochlng.htm
"Move, therefore, and show yourselves! Open the mysteries of your creation!
For I am a servant of the same your God, a true worshipper of the Highest!" Above is a sample of the Angelic language. These words appear at the end of Key One, as well as Keys Eleven through Eighteen, prayers given to Dr. John Dee and Edward Kelly by an angel in 1584 for use in evoking angels. These Keys, along with other samples of the Angelic language, form the basis of the Enochian system of magick, so named because it was supposedly given first to Enoch, the Biblical figure who "walked with God" and was reportedly taken up to heaven, avoiding death. The samples given to Dee and Kelly the 49 Keys, which are made up of less than 1000 distinct words, plus the names of a large number of angels, and numerous snippets represent the only samples we have of the Angelic language. The angels have apparently chosen not to reveal any more of their language to anyone; unless someone out there has been very quiet about it! The purpose of this web page is to serve as a public receptacle of analytical work that has been done on the existing samples of Angelic specifically, work that has explored closely the grammatical, syntactic, morphemic, phonetic, and phonemic properties of the Angelic language. Work regarding translation and textual analysis have also been featured. Links are given to such documents that have already been published on the Web, and space is dedicated here to new work that has not previously appeared on the Web.

The Association for Computational Linguistics is THE international scientific and professional society for people working on problems involving natural language and computation. Membership includes the ACL quarterly journal, COMPUTATIONAL LINGUISTICS , reduced registration at most ACL-sponsored conferences , discounts on ACL-sponsored publications, and participation in ACL Special Interest Groups. The ACL journal, Computational Linguistics , continues to be the primary forum for research on computational linguistics and natural language processing. Since 1988, the journal has been published for the ACL by MIT Press to provide a broader distributional base. More about the journal (submission and review forms). An annual meeting is held each summer in locations where significant computational linguistics research is carried out.

The languages within the scope of the journal, probably numbering over a thousand, are the original languages of Australia, the Papuan languages of New Guinea, and the languages of the Austronesian (or Malayo-Polynesian) family. Articles in Oceanic Linguistics cover issues of linguistic theory that pertain to languages of the area, report research on historical relations, or furnish new information about inadequately described languages.
