R.J. Stewart and the World of Faery
by Megan
interview
Megan: Can you tell where and how you started? What tradition is it that you practice? RJ: I started with two interests: traditional ballads and folk tales, and meditation and magical arts. Eventually the two came together. I worked for several years (in the early 1970's) with the late W. G. Gray who was a Qabalist and his wife X. Roberta who was an astrologer and who Y. was also very knowledgeable about Celtic tradition. I practice certain aspects of the Faery and Underworld tradition, but I also receive the inner lineage of magical arts and Priest/Priestess hood traditions that we teach in workshops. Some of this inner contact was handed down from WGG, who received it from a French Russian teacher, linking back to the circles of Papus and other mystical/magical orders from 19th century in France with a strong Russian influence. However, I have developed these traditions in my own way, and do not claim them to be anything other than work that I have tried to clarify and develop over the last 30 years. M: Do you call what you do witchcraft or are you a pagan? What is it like to be a pagan in Europe?

by R.J. Stewart The Underworld and Faery Tradition is a transformative initatory system involving a mysterious realm hidden deep within the land, and echoed within our human consciousness. Celtic and classical sources clearly defined this tradition and it persisted actively in folklore, tales and songs until well into the twentieth century. However, this is the first time that detailed information has been made available in modern form to the general reader.
Earthlight presents important practical methods of working within the Faery Tradition. Through powerful techniques of visualization and imagination, a set of keys to understanding ourselves is found. The Underworld and Faery Tradition leads to true healing and regeneration, both of ourselves and of the earth. back to booklist

The Faery Cord With RJ Stewart A New Workshop Open to All The Faery Cord, a powerful magical aid and companion that embodies a tradition with origins in the ancestral past, is presented now with unique methods taught only by RJ Stewart. The Faery Cord stands for, and replaces, "implements of magic" which enables an almost invisible method of creating power patterns, that you can take anywhere. The Cord can be used uniquely, in its own right, without other forms of spiritual or magical work, and it may also be used with the Magic of Three Sticks, as taught by RJ Stewart. In this workshop, we will Empower a Cord. This simple ceremony, known as the Ritual of Inhabitation, may be repeated easily to attune and empower your cord. The information, techniques and the powerful faery contacts and spiritual forces of this gathering enable one single cord to become a cord that can be used in personal meditation or group work to:

71. What Is Wicca?
faery tradition. The origins of this tradition come from the myths and legendsof the Tuatha De Danann, the deities who are now known as Faery Folk .
http://members.aol.com/fadedone33/wicca.html
What is Wicca
Wicca, pronounced "wick-ah", is a modern religion, based upon the ancient Western European, pre-Christian shamanic traditions. (Notice I said "based upon"... Wicca itself has only been around for about 50 years or so. The traditions and beliefs however are very old and come from several of the old religions) It is fertility, earth-based and nature oriented; Wiccans recognize and worship during the change of the seasons and the full and new moons. Wicca is considered a pagan religion, which means it is not Judeo-Christian in origin. Pagan simply means "not of the city" or "country-dweller" and should not be thought of as a negative term. Wicca is unique in that it has no dogmas, docterines or set of rules. This can be confusing for new practitioners, because Wiccan practices are derived from within, are personal and individual and are not mandated by any one person, hierarchy, or "Bible". Many people brought up in an organized religion are not used to such an open and free belief system. It takes time to become comfortable in developing your religious practices from your personal experiences and knowledge, but therein lies the beauty of Wicca. Individuality is an honored trait for Wiccans, therefore, Wicca is not a "cohesive" religion. One can practice either with a coven or as a solitary, and they can worship in their own individual way. Also, some people who belong to covens may branch out and form their own coven. This is totally acceptable and it allows for a greater sharing of beliefs and of the establishment of new ideas and practices. Although Wiccan practices are unique to the individual or coven, most Wiccans have more in common with other Wiccans than they do differences.

trait, since the discharging of 'elfshot', flint-tipped arrows, at both human andbeast, is among the most prominent features of it in the faery tradition.
http://www.druidry.org/obod/theorder/archive/jm-robin.html
The Green Dancers
from Robin Hood, by John Matthews
"All in a woodman's jacket he was clad
Of Lincoln greene, belaye'd with silver lace;
And ion his head an hood with aglets sprad,
And by his side his hunter's horne he hanging had."
(Canto VI. ii. 5. ) The importance given to the episode in the Gest where the Sheriff, having been captured, is made to put on the dress of an outlaw, is evidence that the colour was regarded as important even then. Certainly all the references to the clothing bought for those taking the role of Robin Hood in the May-Day Games, or in the Robin Hood plays of the 16th to 18th centuries refer to this colour. Until recent times 'to wear the green' was another way of saying that one followed the old religion of this land.
Another aspect of all this is the association between Robin Hood and fairs and between Faery folk and fairs. According to the Elizabethan writer Henry Fuller, wherever Robin went 'he carried a fair along with him, chapmen crowding to buy his stolen goods', and there are frequent references to fairs in the ballads. In Ireland, of course, there was the Puck Fair, held at Killorglin in County Kerry every August, where there was a general disposition towards wild behaviour and unbridled licence.
Puck, in this instance, comes from the Gaelic poc meaning a he-goat. (Though, as we shall see, there is reason to connect Puck with Robin Hood.) Every year a goat is chosen, decorated, and paraded through the town to the accompaniment of music and song. It is regarded as the King of the Fair, and is ceremonially crowned and placed on a platform, where it remains through out the duration of the fair. Despite the derivation of the name, there are echoes of Puckish goings on at the fair, with possible factional combats of the kind already described in the previous chapter, and there are a number of stories about people unlawfully trying to steal the goat and finding that their hands were mysteriously stuck to its shaggy coat.
