OUR PHILOSOPHY Our philosophy is simple: to create the illusion of live musicians in a real three-dimensional space. Chesky Records tries to achieve the impression of reality with the most advanced technology available, careful microphone placement, and, most of all, a recording team that pays attention to every minute detail-making your listening experience tangible, pleasureable, exciting, and realistic. Our commitment to detail and our dedication to the music we produce has earned the company world-wide acclaim for the artistic and technical excellence of its releases. But Chesky Records didn't become a Grammy Award-winning independent audiophile label overnight: it's been nearly eleven years of hard work coupled with an abiding passion for great music that has gotten us this far, and it is this very same combination that will carry Chesky into the future. OUR HISTORY It all started in 1978 when a young composer/musician named David Chesky, who was beginning a career on Columbia Records, found himself frustrated with the lack of artistic control afforded by his position. He asked his business partner and younger brother Norman if he thought they should start their own record company. But what did these two young men who had made their way from Miami to New York at a tender age know about running a business? Frankly, not much. But what the brothers may have lacked in corporate acumen they made up for with a burning passion to create great music and great sounds, and the desire to to create new and exciting ways to capture and reproduce music.

One difference is that Murphy sometimes makes movies that challenge expectations. Since becoming a star, Lawrence has done that only once, in 1999 when he co-starred with Murphy in Life His other movies roll off an assembly line, with the jug-eared comedian playing the same character each time. Miguel Felipe
Director of Music A native of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Miguel is very excited to be beginning his first year as Director of Music at Arlington Street Church. Miguel currently lives in Boston, Massachusetts while he commutes weekly as Artistic Director of the Maine Gay Men's Chorus based in Portland, Maine.
Most recently, Miguel lived in Cincinnati, OH where he completed a degree in Music Theory and Conducting at The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music , summa cum laude under the tutelage of John Leman and Christopher Zimmerman. He also worked as a church musician for several area churches including The Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains , home of the archbishop of Ohio. A consistent promoter of new music, Miguel was involved in several concerts in Cincinnati that combined new commissions with standard repertoire including concertos, symphonies and choral works. Having worked with composers on several commissions, Miguel has conducted over 15 premieres in the past several years. Among them is at least remain silent, a concert-length piece by composer Corey Dargel , combining newly-composed music with baroque and popular music in a hybrid piece dealing with issues of queer alienation in today's society.

While "Kangaroo Jack," starring Jerry O'Connell and Anthony Anderson, is about a black guy and a white guy who chase a marsupial though the Australian Outback after it steals $50,000 in mob money, "National Security," starring Martin Lawrence and Steve Zahn, is about a black guy and a white guy who ... um ... does it really matter?
