entertainment music classical and opera manchester classical and opera Kathryn returns for Piano 2003 CELEBRATION OF THE PIANO: Kathryn Stott Rachel Pugh
TAKE a dozen pianos, 28 international pianists and put them in 68 events spread over 17 days, add soul singer Des’ree, a red Ferrari grand piano and top-flight musicians from St Petersburg and the result is an orgy of keyboard music not experienced in Manchester – since Piano 2000.
Piano 2003, which is set to rock the Bridgewater Hall from March 14 to 30 is ambitious even by the standards of event mastermind and internationally-known pianist Kathryn Stott.
The festival, in addition to celebrating the piano itself, also focuses on the 300th anniversary of the founding of Manchester’s twin city of St Petersburg and 150 years of the piano-makers Steinways

[an error occurred while processing this directive] Belfast branches out Frontrow: Edited by Helen Meany The programme for this year's Belfast Festival at Queen's increases the multicultural emphasis of the past few years and moves the event out of the university area, which has been its traditional base. Stella Hall, the festival director, has obviously taken note of the success of the city's fledgling Cathedral Quarter festival earlier in the year. In response to audience research, she and her committee have increased the range of performances and programmed events in unusual venues, with three specially commissioned public-art projects and lots of outdoor locations. The Paint Hall in the docklands is the venue for the festival's most ambitious production, Ryusei - Shooting Stars, a Japanese musical show performed by a cast of 30 from the Osaka-based Ishin-Ha theatre company. The Japanese theme permeates a programme of recitals and opera also, including a performance by the superb pianist Noriko Ogawa. Other musical highlights include the premiere of a piece by Henryk Górecki, performed by the Irish Chamber Orchestra, the BBC Singers and the organist Charles Harrison. Indian culture is highlighted in the Diwali project, which includes an exhibition at the new art gallery at Queen's and projections onto the facade of the Lanyon building.

F A Q Computer Audio Circuits to build Room Acoustics ... Clinic/Cases Listening ability and SSO concerts Dear Readers, Very often, when Joe and I tried our best to improve a system for an audiophile, then at the end of the day, the answer could be, ‘are there any differences?’. The answer could be discouraging, and also does not speak too well of the audiophile’s ability. This is not uncommon. Joe sometimes could not help but asked, ‘why are so many people behave as if they are deaf ?’
We are not putting these audiophiles down. Listening is indeed a skill, something that needs sharpening over time. Joe is a very good pianist. I am a qualified violin teacher. Our ears were well trained. I did not know that it was the beginning of hell for me. Learning the violin ruined my childhood. Learning the violin was very difficult. Stiff shoulders, stiff neck, painful fingers, swollen chin, and a fear that the violin teacher will shout again if I did not play the tunes properly. I was not very gifted in playing the violin. Many times I tried to escape the violin lessons, and was badly punished. Most of the time my parents canned me was because of the music lessons. As time went by, I realized I finished my grade 5 violin playing exam at one stage. I then become more interested in studying music, and nearly wanted to be a full time music worker. I started going to SSO concerts very often. When I was 14, I joined the SYO, which was the Singapore Youth Orchestra. I was playing the second violin, and later was playing the first violin. It was a very time consuming devotion. Not only I had to practise for my own lessons, I had to join the weekly practise help in Victoria Concert hall. On top of these, I had to keep up with the studies in school.
