Maybe it's a nagging ache in your thumbs, every time you practice at the piano. Perhaps there have been long rehearsals for that crucial recital, and now you notice stabbing pains in your forearms. Or you find yourself struggling with hands that have become increasingly clumsy, or numb. It may be that you are even waking up at night with pain in your arms, or your back, or your neck. Well, it's just a part of being a serious musician, right? And after all, you can't stop practicing - there's too much at stake, and music is your very life! Does this sound familiar? Instrumental musicians are a special risk group for repetitive motion injuries. Sizable percentages of them develop physical problems related to playing their instruments; and if they are also computer users, their risks are compounded and complicated. My own computer-induced tendinitis was very much aggravated by my guitar and violin playing and did not begin to improve until I stopped all playing for several months. Instrumental injuries often include the same conditions experienced from computer overuse Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Tendinitis, Bursitis

    Presenting The 24th Season
    John Montanari,
    Artistic Director
Chamber music in New England is a year-round pleasure. It cools us off during the summer months, permitting us to escape the heat and refresh our spirits with the sounds of genius, in casual shirtsleeve comfort. Then, as the local foliage performs its spectacular swan song, and we prepare for the annual slumber of the earth, its unmatched combination of great composers, talented performers and beautiful venues provides a warming refuge from the cares of our lives.
With nearly a quarter-century of presentation history, and a roster of past performers that reads like a "Who's Who" of chamber music, Music In Deerfield is hardly resting on its reputation as it announces the stunning lineup of its 24th season. Four of the world's leading string quartets, two great early music ensembles and four of the Pioneer Valley's finest musical venues all add up to hour after hour of music of incomparable richness and pleasure.
Concerts by the St. Petersburg String Quartet

Shepard (Columbia Records, CBS, Inc.) When I discovered Internet nearly 4 years ago and started publishing my own webpages, I had a lovely link to the lyrics from this Broadway show, which contains one of my favorite scores. Over the intervening years, many websites with lyrics to this and other Broadway shows have disappeared. I can only suppose this has been a deliberate attempt on the part of someone to suppress these lyrics, but I can't understand why. Surely people would still need to buy sheet music in order to perform these songs in the privacy of their own home or in public, and ASCAP and the applicable authors are not being diddled out of any royalties just because the lyrics are accessible in some form on Internet. In any case, the lyrics for COMPANY are publicly available in the published version of the text of the play, which I borrowed from the New York Public Library.

YOU’RE JUST A THOUGHT AWAY Distance takes us far apart
And darkens my today,
I have to keep remembering
You’re just a thought away. When the world is too confusing, And times are hard to bear, I pull your precious meaning, Your bright spirit, from the air. And if I sometimes drift Into a lonely state of mind, I gather up the memories Of the days now left behind. And though you’re not beside me, I can tap into my heart And draw upon the warmth and love That now lives while we’re apart. And with these fond reflections On the times when you were near,. I sense a little bit of what It’s like to have you here… Bruce B. Wilmer Lovingly lifted from the newsletter of TCF, Brisbane, Australia We extend a warm welcome to all fellow bereaved parents and particularly the newly bereaved, who may be receiving the newsletter for the first time. The Compassionate Friends is a self-help group for bereaved parents and their families. Our newsletters are made up of informative articles, original writings and personal favourite verses from fellow bereaved parents. Our stories are shared in the hope that they may provide support and comfort to others.

for the third time in the last four years. The 70-member student orchestra is comprised mostly of music majors from the School of Music.
In its annual independent peer review of graduate programs nation-wide, U. S. News and World Report ranked the UNC Jazz Studies program in the top five of best graduate schools - music specialities jazz. The UNC School of Music's Master of Music degree program was ranked #58 in the list of best graduate schools. A December 2, 2001 Denver Post headline declared: "Drama Kings – In Colorado, UNC offers best undergraduate theatre program." Post theatre critic John Moore assembled a panel of eight impartial observers to evaluate educational theatre programs throughout the state. Their conclusion was that UNC's department was simply "the best." Program size, faculty with a broad knowledge base and a strong commitment to their students, degrees in eight separate emphases, and professional calibre productions were among the reasons cited that put UNC on top.
