Jansenius yperni püspök felelevenítette Szent Ágoston tanítását a szabad akaratot kétségbevonó „eleve elrendeltség"-rõl. Ez az okozatiság szigorúan tudomásul vett törvényszeruségével jelentosen fejlesztette a tudományos gondolkodást. Mauriac was for decolonization, and at the height of the crisis he supported de Gaulle without enthusiasm, as the only alternative to catastrophe.
