presente e no futuro.
A inteligência é

    Siamo figli dello stesso gene

    A Nobel cause
    By Pat Hagan
European Union leaders gathering for a summit in Seville today and tomorrow no doubt already have a packed agenda. But now they have another contentious issue to mull over. Six Nobel laureates this week penned a joint letter to them criticising the EU's science policy and demanding a doubling of research funds to stem the 'brain drain' to the US. In a stinging attack, the six leading figures said fundamental change is needed if the EU is to achieve its stated goal of creating "the most competitive knowledge-based economy in the world by 2010." The signatories are 1992 French physics laureate Georges Charpak , 1984 Italian Physics laureate Carlo Rubbia , 1982 British Chemistry laureate Sir Aaron Klug Bengt Samuelsson (1982), Italy's Rita Levi-Montalcini (1986) and Belgian Christian de Duve It's a carefully timed exercise designed to heighten the profile of an issue which many in the European scientific community feel has not had the attention it deserves. "It's pretty clear that we do not invest enough although the UK is worse than some other EU countries by quite a margin," said Peter Cotgreave, director of pressure group Save British Science . "The US spends more and has more attractive places where you can go and do exciting science, all because the system has more resources in it.

    Keeping the Darwinists Honest
'Truth detector' Phillip Johnson has evolutionists backpedaling.
With Phillip Johnson This article is reprinted from an interview with Citizen Magazine, April 1999. Scientists and educators are typically scornful of biblically based ideas, but many find it less easy to resist the concept of "intelligent design"-hard evidence that life on earth is not the result of a random process. That's the message law professor Phillip Johnson of Berkeley, Calif., is taking to the world's leading scholars. Johnson is the author of Darwin on Trial , and most recently, Johnson spoke recently with Citizen editor Tom Hess. Citizen : Are public schools wrong to teach evolution? Johnson: No, if it is taught honestly. The problem is that it's being taught dogmatically. It's being used to indoctrinate students rather than inform them. What should Christian students learn, if anything, about evolution?
They should learn how the scientific community thinks about this subject. They also ought to learn all the weaknesses of the theory and the evidence that contradicts it. Then they will be able to make up their minds intelligently.

    http://www.futurefoundation.org/board/deduve.html
Christian de Duve Christian de Duve, born in 1917 in Thames-Ditton, Great Britain, from Belgian parents, embarked on his career as a researcher when he began his medical studies (1934-1941) at the Catholic University of Louvain where he was appointed Professor in 1947. Initially, he became involved in the physiology of endocrinology and rediscovered glucagon, the insulin antagonist hormone, and then became interested in metabolic biochemistry. From 1950, he devoted himself to subcellular biochemistry, a new field which he was to pioneer with Albert Claude and George Palade. He particularly concentrated on refining fractionation techniques to isolate the various subcellular compartments and to establish their corresponding contribution to the cell's economy. His work has led to the discovery of lysosomes and peroxysomes, intracellular organs containing enzymes essential to biochemical reactions. He divides his time between the Catholic University of Louvain and the Rockefeller Institute (now the Rockefeller University) where he was appointed Professor in 1962 and he is presently Professor of Biochemical Cytology Emeritus. Christian de Duve is steadfast in his pursuit of a twin objective: to gain a greater in-depth knowledge of fundamental biology and to apply the most recent discoveries to the improvement of man's well-being and health.
