This is the web site for Computer Algebra in Mathematics Education , an open, international organisation for those interested in the use of computer algebra software in mathematics education. LATEST NEWS (November 2002): First Announcement of the CAME 2003 Symposium, Reims (France), June 2003
Goals and history
CAME was originally founded at ICME-8 in Seville in July 1996. CAME's goals are:
  • to facilitate the dissemination and exchange of information on research and development in the use of computer algebra in mathematics education;
  • to facilitate access to international expertise in the use of computer algebra in mathematics education;
  • to promote the study of the use of computer algebra in mathematics education.
CAME's principle activity is a two-yearly Symposium: the first was in Israel, 1999 ; the second in The Netherlands, 2001 ; and the third will be in Reims, France, June 2003
The International Committee
CAME's work is steered by an International Committee consisting of: Michel Beaudin , Ecole de Technologie Superieure, Montreal, Canada
Paul Drijvers
, Freudenthal Institute, University of Utrecht, Netherlands
Kathy Heid

Maxima for Symbolic Computation Program
The offical homepage for Maxima is located at http://maxima.sourceforge.net/ . This page is no longer maintained.
Maxima is a Common Lisp implementation of MIT's Macsyma system for computer based algebra. Maxima is now about to be released under the GNU Public License. I have maintained and extended Maxima for the last 15 years, but have only recently received formal permission from DOE , to release this under GPL as a derivative work. This formalizes earlier opinions from DOE.
  • Plotting via netmath over the network.
  • Computations over network
  • Well tested on a large array of problems.
  • Source level Debugger for maxima code
  • Documentation available as html , or texinfo and so info, and so dvi and postscript.
  • Latest source development version available or look here for how to download using cvs
  • Easy to extend in fundamentally new ways, because you have complete access to source, and access to Common Lisp.
  • Portable to many systems.
  • Now covered by GNU public license, so it will stay free.
  • Was the first computer algebra system, and is one of the best.

SIMATH is a computer algebra system, especially for number theoretic purpose. A more detailed overview is available as dvi file. You can alternatively download the TeX Source of this file. The center of development and maintainance of SIMATH is now in TMU (Tokyo Metropolitan University). You can get our present policy and an aim from here as dvi file or from here as ps file The SIMATH manual is also available (as dvi file). The TeX-Source of this file is distributed together with the SIMATH system. For more information about the algorithms in SIMATH, you can download the following articles: Following this link, you will find some examples of sources of programs written in SIMATH. We have set up a mailing list to discuss several problems related to the number theoretic system SIMATH among the users of the system. Send an email to simath-user-request@tnt.math.metro-u.ac.jp

40. The Yacas Computer Algebra System
A general purpose easy program for It is built on top of its own programming language designed for symbolic manipulation of math symbols. Includes information on how to use the software.
http://yacas.sourceforge.net/
YACAS is an easy to use, general purpose Computer Algebra System, a program for symbolic manipulation of mathematical expressions. It uses its own programming language designed for symbolic as well as arbitrary-precision numerical computations. The system has a library of scripts that implement many of the symbolic algebra operations; new algorithms can be easily added to the library. YACAS comes with extensive documentation (320+ pages) covering the scripting language, the functionality that is already implemented in the system, and the algorithms we used.
This entire site (including the documentation) can also be found in the source code distribution
