21. Perl And CGI Scripts From Visual Echo
For automated gallery image management and thumbnail pages.
http://www.visual-echo.com
A fully automated Perl script designed
to manage your Image Galleries
TAG is a perl script that will manage from one to multiple galleries with as many images as you require in each gallery. Whenever you want to change the images TAG can automatically update the galleries content or this can be done by simply clicking one button in the main console. From your image database TAG will select the quantity of images you require to be displayed and then create HTML code to display the thumbnails which will link to the larger main images. The image selection is random and each time a new selection of pictures is required, TAG will check to ensure the new set has not already been previously displayed. Once all images in your database have been used you will be notified. At this point you can just re-display the images again or load down some new ones.

22. Year 2000 Compliance: Lawyers, Liars, And Perl.
Nav bar, Year 2000 Compliance Lawyers, Liars, and perl. As the perl. Now, what about perl? Is perl ``Year 2000 Compliant''? The answer
http://language.perl.com/news/y2k.html
Year 2000 Compliance:
Lawyers, Liars, and Perl
As the clock draws us relentlessly closer toward 2000, the final year of the second millennium, doom sayers everywhere are prophesying unprecedented computer failure in every conceivable sector. Known popularly as the Year 2000 Problem , or the Millennium Bug , this situation is quite easy to explain. Programs that interpret two-digit dates in the form XX as behave unpredictably starting in the year 2000 and beyond into the next millennium. If your birthday is ``2/2/05'', are you 101 years old in 2006, or just one year old? Cost estimates of fixing this bug range well into the billions of dollars, with the likely threat of at least that much money again incurred in protracted legal fees due to real and alleged damages. Because of these devastating cost projections, corporations and government are mounting pressure to secure legally binding statements that all software they use is warranted to be year 2000 compliant. As you might well guess, this pressure often stems from lawyer-wary insurance companies, who quite reasonably fear death-by-litigation even more than they might the effects of costs of actual, incurred damages. To defend themselves against legal perils, organizations all over the world are rushing to secure, in all possible haste, affidavits to the effect that such-and-such software is year 2000 compliant. They intend to brandish these as some sort of legal shield when the inevitable chaos strikes, righteously proclaiming themselves free of Y2K taint and redirecting lawsuits toward the signers of the aforementioned documents.

Embperl
is a framework for building websites with Perl For the beginner it's an easy to setup and use way of embedding Perl code in HTML pages. It delivers several features that ease the task of creating a websites, including dynamic tables, formfield-processing, escaping/unescaping, session handling, caching and more. If your demands grow it gives you the power to make your Website object-oriented and build it out of small reusable components. If you don't like the idea of mixing up all your layout and code then Embperl also supports separating it in different objects (e.g. creating an MVC application). Of course Embperl doesn't tie you to HTML - it allows components to be from different source formats (e.g. HTML, WML, XML, POD, ...) and if necessary transforms them (for example via XSLT) to other output formats. This is achieved by dividing the output generation into small steps, where each is processed by a plugable provider. Advanced users can create their own syntax definitions (for example tag libraries) and extend Embperl by writing their own providers and much more... Embperl is a server-side tool, which means that it's browser-independent. It can run in various ways: under mod_perl, as a CGI script, or offline.

New Questions Scientific Graphing, R and Perl
on Mar 17, 2003 at 14:35 5 replies by Coyote
This is half a rant and half a question, so bear with me. I'm trying to generate some fairly complex publication quality graphs from an XML datasource. I've been using XML::Twig to munge the data and tab delimited text files. I then take the tab deliminated files, load them into R, run some descriptive stats, and build my graphs. A quick google search reveals that there is a perl interface to R, RSPerl . In theory, I should be able to completely automate my work, however I haven't had any luck getting RSPerl to work. The installation procedure doesn't install the perl modules anywhere in @INC. I tracked down all the necessary paths, but the R module is still complaining about my environment and dying an ugly death. The RSPerl documentaion hasn't been terribly helpful and R's author's insightful selection of "R" as a name for their program has essentially rendered google useless. I'm getting a bit frustrated, so I thought I would turn to the Monestary for help. Has any here successfully installed and used RSPerl? If so, could you give me some pointers on how to get this working? If it helps, I've tried getting this working on a fairly vannila Gentoo Linux installation running R 1.61 and perl 5.8.0 compiled from source and a RedHat 7.3 box running R 1.51 and perl 5.6.1 installed from RPM.

Modules to provide a simple and consistent programming interface to the WWW.
http://www.linpro.no/lwp/
The libwww-perl collection is a set of Perl modules which provides a simple and consistent application programming interface to the World-Wide Web. The main focus of the library is to provide classes and functions that allow you to write WWW clients. The library also contain modules that are of more general use and even classes that help you implement simple HTTP servers. The latest version of the library is libwww-perl-5.64.tar.gz (179 KB) which was released Feb 9, 2002. You will need perl version 5.005 or better to use this version. You can look at the individual files of the latest distribution directly, which includes the Changes file that should tell you if an upgrade is worthwhile. For perl version 5.004 you should continue to use libwww-perl-5.53.tar.gz (153 KB) which was released Apr 10, 2001. This version does not provide HTTP/1.1 support. The latest libwww-perl package as well as perl itself are also available on CPAN (Comprehensive Perl Archive Network). This is also the place to obtain the other packes that libwww-perl depend upon ( URI HTML::Parser MIME::Base64 Digest::MD5 , and Net::FTP from libnet ) as well as other modules that I wrote From SourceForge you can also obtain the source directly from CVS and also browse the CVS repository directly. perlfaq1 - General Questions About Perl ($Revision: 1.23 $, $Date: 1999/05/23 16:08:30 $)
DESCRIPTION
This section of the FAQ answers very general, high-level questions about Perl.
What is Perl?
Perl is a high-level programming language with an eclectic heritage written by Larry Wall and a cast of thousands. It derives from the ubiquitous C programming language and to a lesser extent from sed, awk, the Unix shell, and at least a dozen other tools and languages. Perl's process, file, and text manipulation facilities make it particularly well-suited for tasks involving quick prototyping, system utilities, software tools, system management tasks, database access, graphical programming, networking, and world wide web programming. These strengths make it especially popular with system administrators and CGI script authors, but mathematicians, geneticists, journalists, and even managers also use Perl. Maybe you should, too.

    Overview
A regular expression is a string of characters which tells the searcher which string (or strings) you are looking for. The following explains the format of regular expressions in detail. If you are familiar with Perl, you already know the syntax. If you are familiar with Unix, you should know that there are subtle differences between Perl's regular expressions and Unix' regular expressions.
    Simple Regular Expressions
In its simplest form, a regular expression is just a word or phrase to search for. For example, gauss would match any subject with the string "gauss" in it, or which mentioned the word "gauss" in the subject line. Thus, subjects with "gauss", "gaussian" or "degauss" would all be matched, as would a subject containing the phrases "de-gauss the monitor" or "gaussian elimination." Here are some more examples: carbon
Finds any subject with the string "carbon" in its name, or which mentions carbon (or carbonization or hydrocarbons or carbon-based life forms) in the subject line.
    hydro
Finds any subject with the string "hydro" in its name or contents. Subjects with "hydro", "hydrogen" or "hydrodynamics" are found, as well as subjects containing the words "hydroplane" or "hydroelectric".

  • 40. Tutorial De Lenguaje PERL
Introducci³n en una sola p¡gina, perfecta para principiantes con el lenguaje perl.
    http://kataix.umag.cl/~mmarin/topinf/perl.html
      $palabra = 'perros';
    ($palabra1,$palabra2,$palabra3) = ("JUAN","PEPE","LUIS"); @frutas = ("manzana","pera","naranja","fresa"); $numero_de_elementos = $#frutas+1; $2_elemento = $frutas[2]; print @frutas[1,2]; Otra forma de indexar un array es usando el operador rango .. , si quisieramos imprimir todos los valores desde un indice i hasta un indice j deberiamos utilizar el siguiente formato @nom_variable[i..j], por ejemplo: print @frutas[0..2]; %precio = ( "manzana",100,"pera",20,"naranja",30,"fresa",200 );
