ca. 1986 In addition to presenting concerts, Feldman's festival created a seminar environment in which student composers attended workshops where distinguished composers-in-residence rehearsed their works and gave lectures. Feldman also wanted to create a more intense listening experience by presenting programs that contained multiple works by a single composer. To that end, twelve works by John Cage were presented on the three concerts that opened the first festival in June 1975. Other single-composer programs were devoted to the works of Christian Wolff, Ralph Shapey, George Crumb, Lejaren Hiller, Nils Vigeland, Steve Reich, Charles Wuorinen, Henry Brant, Elliott Carter, Stefan Wolpe, Milton Babbitt, Lou Harrison, Earle Brown, and Aaron Copland. Works by earlier twentieth-century composers, including Ives, Schoenberg, Satie, Cowell, Webern, Berg, and Bártók were also presented on June in Buffalo programs.

"Our leading exponent of the avant-garde flute"
-Kyle Gann, THE VILLAGE VOICE
Flutist of choice for hoards of composers, Margaret Lancaster is an artist who hasn't merely 'pushed the envelope' of flute performance and repertoire, she's redefined it with fearless technique, musicianship, wit, and a clear sense of performance values. Lancaster's early interest in new music, specifically the works of Elliott Carter, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Steve Reich, was fostered while studying music at the University of Louisville and Brooklyn College where her primary teachers were Francis Fuge and Harold Jones. Noted for her inter-disciplinary collaboration with writers and composers, she has built a large repertoire of contemporary flute works composed specifically for her, that employ extended techniques, dance, drama, multi-media, and electronics.
Lancaster is a member of Essential Music and Downtown Ensemble, and is a recurring performer at Spoleto Festival USA, BONK Festival of New Music, ThreeTwo Festival, and Santa Fe New Music. Performance highlights include Bargemusic, Paul Zukofsky¹s Musical Observations workshop, and the Lincoln Center Festival. She has appeared as a lecturer/soloist at many sites including Dartmouth College Festival of New Musics, Princeton University, North Carolina School of the Arts, and the National Flute Association annual convention.

Keith Carpenter (U.S.A.) Keith Carpenter is from Houston, Texas. He earned his BM in composition from Rice University where he studied with Ellsworth Milburn and the late Paul Cooper . His earliest musical experiences came through playing guitar in rock and roll bands. As a result, Carpenter's music is often heavily indebted to rock and jazz. He often borrows elements (progressions, licks, rhythms, forms) directly from what he considers seminal rock songs, but disguises them so that they are impossible to recognize. Carpenter is currently completing his DM at Northwestern University where he studied with M. William Karlins Jay Alan Yim Michael Pisaro Amnon Wolman and Gerhard Stabler . He received his MM from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in 1992. While there he studied with Joel Hoffman and Darrell Handel . He has also studied at the American Conservatory at Fountainebleau where he worked with Tristan Murail and with Louis Andriessen at the Atlantic Center the Arts. Carpenter's works have been performed in the United States and Europe. His first orchestral work, Lump, received its European premiere in 1998 in Tirana. Carpenter teaches at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and is the coordinator and founder of the Chicago Chapter of the American Composers Forum.

http://www.bodogaard.no/A88/artikler/khroma/stenso.html
Musikken i lyder
Av Jørgen Mathiesen, Avisa Nordland
Man tar seg i å måpe. Smile. Undres.
Fantasifullt.
