Musgrave to sub for Spencer at Bristol
STATESVILLE, N.C. (Aug. 17, 1998) Ted Musgrave has been named as the driver of the No. 23 Team Winston Ford for the Goody's Headache Powder 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway, substituting for the injured Jimmy Spencer. Musgrave, 42, is in his eighth full season in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. He had driven for owner Jack Roush from 1994 through the Bud at the Glen at Watkins Glen International two weeks ago. He drove last week at Michigan Speedway for owner Bud Moore, finishing 19th. "We're very fortunate to have someone with Ted's experience and talent who can fill in for Jimmy," said team owner Travis Carter. "While we await Jimmy's return, we're optimistic that Ted can come in and give us a lift." Musgrave owns one top-five finish and four top-10s in 1998. He has finished second in four events in his career, most recently in the Goody's Headache Powder 500 at Martinsville Speedway in April of this year. He currently is 20th in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series standings. Spencer suffered a concussion during a late-race incident in the Aug. 1 Brickyard 400. He drove until the first caution period at the Bud at the Glen before being relieved by Boris Said. Spencer sat out Sunday's race at Michigan, where Frank Kimmel substituted and drove to a 31st-place finish.

04.04.2002 - Day 7
Our spirits are high as Kurt and I pull into the parking lot at Kennedy Space Center Visitor’s Complex. We have been anticipating this date for well over a month – we managed to obtain a package including tickets to tour the visitor’s center, have lunch with an astronaut, and – the true icing on the cake – view the launching of the Space Shuttle Atlantis (STS-110) from as close as NASA allows the general public. Unfortunately, our ecstasy is short-lived; the security guards will not let us in with our backpack, so we have to take it back to the car. As we are transferring needed items from the pack to our pockets, we overhear a man walking toward a near-by car stating that the mission had been scrubbed for at least 24 hours! Reluctant to believe the bad fortune, Kurt and I hurry back to the visitor’s center for further investigation. Sadly enough, it’s true. A hydrogen leak has grounded the Orbiter for the time being. Dejectedly, Kurt and I begin our tour of the Visitor’s Center. Somehow, it just doesn’t have as much color as it did thirty minutes earlier. Even though there is the possibility that the Shuttle might lift off on Friday, we determine that taking the risk to possibly see it is not worth giving up our last day of diving.

A Phi Delt greeting Story Musgrave H'99 delivered plenty of the right stuff during a jam-packed two-and-a-half-day visit in March. The multidimensional Musgrave spacewalker, surgeon and artist gave the Wolk Heart Foundation lecture. Mike Wolk '60, who endows the series, and Musgrave were classmates at Columbia Medical School and have kept in touch. They most recently got together at the commencement exercises for the Class of 1999 where the astronaut was awarded an honorary degree. "I joined the Colgate family just this last year," Musgrave told his audience before showing "a bunch of images that capture space and why we explore it." By the time he showed his photographs, Musgrave had already endeared himself to Colgate and the community. He began his visit by meeting with a group of middle school girls who are starting a 4-H science club. He encouraged them to explore their natural surroundings and to learn all they could about their world.

Dr. Story Musgrave -
Heard 'Noble, Magnificent
Music' In Space
By Richard Macey
http://www.smh.com.au:80/news/0002/08/text/national5.html

Dr Story Musgrave was never your typical, laconic American astronaut.
The six-time space traveller, who retired from NASA in 1997 after 30 years, holds a masters degree in literature, talks passionately about his new life as an artist, and is convinced intelligent life is out there, somewhere - if only we would look for it.
He admits to having heard music in space - music none of his crewmates could hear.
"I am sure the [NASA]) administration did think I was eccentric," said Dr Musgrave, 64, who is in Sydney for the Qualcon 2000 business conference at the Australian Technology Park in Redfern.
A keen photographer, Dr Musgrave snapped 10,000 pictures of Earth from space. He has brought hundreds with him to show Australians - including one of Uluru, which he regards as one of his great achievements.
"I worked for decades to get that," he said. "I understood the historic, the mythological and spiritual significance of the rock. I thought it would be marvellous to frame it in a spaceship window.
It is exceedingly difficult to find ... it's nowhere. It wasn't till my sixth flight that I got it."

Musgrave told the overflowing crowd, space is the "only place you can put your pants on both legs at a time."

COLUMBIA, Mo. F. Story Musgrave, MD, former NASA astronaut and surgeon, will present "Medical, Psychological and Physiological Aspects of Spacewalking." he lecture is at 3:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 16, in M105, School of Medicine auditorium Respected as NASA's most accomplished astronaut, Story Musgrave's 30-year career ran from the Apollo era through the space shuttle program and into initial development of spacewalk strategies for the International Space Station. He is the only one to have flown on six space shuttle missions Challenger in 1983 and 1985, Discovery in 1989, Atlantis in 1991, Endeavour in 1993 and Columbia in 1996. His 1996 mission made him the oldest person to ever fly in space at age 61. Musgrave is considered one of the world's authorities on spacewalking. Musgrave became a household name after leading the spacewalking team that repaired the near-sighted $1.5 billion Hubble Space Telescope in 1993. He was instrumental in designing and developing the spacesuits, tools, equipment, systems and procedures used on spacewalks. In 1983, he and fellow astronaut Don Peterson performed the first spacewalk of the shuttle era. He retired from NASA in 1997.

Neighbors oppose church’s addition
john burton The Hub A fter two nights, almost five hours of testimony and cross-examination, and with the promise of more to come, the Red Bank Zoning Board of Adjustment adjourned May 4 without a decision on the First Presbyterian Church of Red Bank’s application for an addition. "This is a major application," contended Board President Lauren Nicosia, upon closing the meeting for the evening. The board will once again take up this application at the next regularly scheduled meeting, June 1. But last Monday, Nicosia said, in the meantime the board’s site subcommittee would visit the area and review the application. The First Presbyterian Church at Red Bank, 225 Harding Road, also known as Tower Hill, is seeking a major site plan approval and a conditional use variance for height, and bulk variances for their parking lot area, lot coverage and for the rear setback requirements.
