Tutorial: Fun with the Morphic Graphics System by John Maloney This tutorial is meant to be used in a Morphic Project. To create a Morphic Project simply hold the mouse button down on the Squeak window background, away from any other windows it contains, to get the screen menu. Select "open..." and then select "project (morphic)". A small orange "Unnamed" morphic project window appears. Click in the middle of it to zoom into the new Morphic Project. (If you are not sure where you are, just pop up the screen menu - if its title is "World", you are already in a Morphic Project.) First we need to create a Browser and a Workspace. Just to review, hold down the mouse button on the blank Squeak screen. From the screen menu that appears, choose "open...". Click on "browser". A green browser will appear. Get the screen menu again and choose "open...", and choose "workspace". If you came fresh from the previous tutorial, you'll already have a category called "My Stuff". Scroll to the bottom of the leftmost list in the browser. It should be there. If not, we need to make a new place to add your stuff. In the upper left pane of the browser, use the right mouse button to get a menu

Let Shiva, who has taken the form of my individual being, offer salutation to his Universal Being Shiva, through media, which is also Shiva, for the removal of obstacles which are, indeed, one with Shiva. Spiritual works mostly begin with salutations to God. A Tribute to All Heroes GRAND KNIGHT'S MESSAGE: I am sure all of us are still in shock over the unspeakable tragedy that took place on September 11, when a group of terrorists, under the guise of religion, perpetrated acts of murder and destruction on our city and our nation. But to their surprise, instead of creating terror, out of the ashes and rubble came the principles that all Knights are familiar with. First came CHARITY, shown by all, as rescue workers, volunteers, blood donors and donations, came out in droves from all over our nation and abroad. Second came UNITY, as all of New York's Bravest and Finest and all the rescuer workers banded together in a common goal, digging through all that debris to find survivors. Third came FRATERNITY, when all our fellow Americans forgot their differences and grieved as brothers. Finally, the principle of PATRIOTISM, not since Pearl Harbor, has this feeling been stronger in our Nation. This tragic event brought out the best in every New Yorker, our civil servants proved that their titles "New York's Bravest" and New York's Finest" are not words. Our fellow citizens showed the world that New Yorkers are not cold, but have tremendous hearts. It made me proud to live in the greatest city in the World! Fraternally yours

The Information Society v11, n3 (Jul-Sep 1995): 173-188. Ethnographic studies of computer-supported cooperative work (CSCW) have often seemed to involve the investigation of relatively large-scale and highly specific systems, consequently ignoring the small office within which many people spend much of their working lives and which is a major site for the introduction and implementation of information technology (IT). The process of work in a small office and its recurrent features - notably, the massive volume of paperwork, the importance of local knowledge in the accomplishment of work, and the phenomenon of constant interruption - are outlined as generic features of office work. It is suggested that despite the obvious contrasts with work settings analyzed in other ethnographic studies, similar features of cooperative work can be observed in the small office, and the issues of cooperation and the sociality of work cannot be forgotten even in small-scale system design.
