Much as I want to say that Kevin Young is a Vital Young Poet and that To Repel Ghosts pro The core of To Repel Ghosts Subtitled Five Sides in B Minor Candid, Warhol scoffed, coined it a nigger's loft not The Factory, Basquiat's studio stood skid rows of canvases, paint peeling like bananas, like scabs. Bartering work for horse, Basquiat churned out butter, signing each soup. How to sell out something bankrupt already? . . . Establishing the fundamental groove, Young will spin off into side melodies, variations on the theme, with brief forays into other lives lifted by fame and burned out by hype. The longest and best diversion concerns Jack Johnson, the black boxer and cause celebre of the early part of the last century who was targeted by the boxing establishment for being too successful, an embarrassment to whites (James Earl Jones played him in The Great White Hope ). But Young inevitably returns to Basquiat, the whole thing resembling a marathon bebop session a la Monk or Coltrane.

JOHN HENRY HOLLIDAY The Living Dead Man ©Lee Paul John Henry Holliday (1851-1887) When he died in bed on Tuesday, 8 November 1887, John Henry "Doc" Holliday laughed. He had always expected to go out in a blaze of glory with his boots on in some hotly contested gun battle, not on a comfortable bed in a spiffy health resort in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Throughout his short life, he had lived one hell-raising adventure after another, adventures which wrote him into western legend. The irony of the situation tickled him. With a monumental last effort, he raised himself up on his elbows, gazed wonderingly at his bare feet, and said, "Well, I’ll be damned. This is funny." Then he laid back and quietly died, leaving behind one of the strangest legends in American history. It is not known exactly when the Henry Burroughs Holliday family moved to Georgia. Henry was born on 11 March 1819 in Laurens County, South Carolina to Robert Alexander and Rebecca (Burroughs) Holliday. It is known that he enlisted in the 1 st Georgia Volunteers on 12 May 1838 under Captain John D. Stills to fight the Cherokee Indian War. He was still living in Georgia when the Mexican War broke out, and he promptly enlisted in "The Fannin Avengers" under Harrison J. Sargent, which became part of a regiment commanded by Colonel Henry R. Jackson of Savannah. This group took its name in honor of the Georgia farm boys who died with Colonel James Fannin at the Goliad Massacre in 1836 during the Texas Revolution. The Fannin Avengers were sent to Monterrey, Mexico under General Zachary Taylor and to Vera Cruz and Jalapa under General Winfield Scott, where Henry was discharged on 30 June 1847. Though still a bachelor at this point, he returned home to Georgia with a ten-year-old orphan named Francisco Hidalgo, whom he raised as his son.

The Gunfighters (1966) The Story: A Holiday for the Doctor: The Clanton brothers, fearsome cattle rustlers, ride into Tombstone, Arizona in 1881, in search of Doc Holliday, who's killed their brother Reuben. The TARDIS materializes in Tombstone in search of a dentist, because the Doctor's got a toothache, and prefers extraction to any more modern method of oral surgery. The Clanton brothers gather at the local bar, the Last Chance Saloon, where they meet hired bounty hunter Seth Harper, who'd lead them to Holliday if only he knew what Doc Holliday looked like. The TARDIS crew dress up in Western attire, but Steven's attempt at gunplay is cut short by a rather bemused Wyatt Earp. "It's your last chance for boozin' when there's no-one to mind It's your last chance for losin', and the first place you'll find Four days ride from the station and you'll leave it at noon, Then your one consolation is the Last Chance Saloon." Don't Shoot the Pianist: It's Kate to the rescue at the Last Chance, as she enters to distract the Clantons from their pursuit of the (real) Holliday. She helps the Doctor disarm the gunfighters, as the Doctor is now warming to his role as Holliday. Earp and Masterson enter the saloon and keep up the charade they arrest the Doctor, as Holliday, to keep him away from the Clantons' wrath. The *real* Doc Holliday keeps Dodo and Kate in an upstairs bedroom, away from the action, while Steven enlists some unlikely help from the Clantons in arranging a jailbreak.
