Mission The primary mission of C.R.O.W. is the rescue, care, rehabilitation and eventual release back to the wild of sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife. Inherent in this mission is the education of adults and children to insure their peaceful coexistence with their wild neighbors. Under the direction of a full time staff veterinarian, professional rehabilitation specialists at the C.R.O.W. wild animal clinic provide high quality medical, surgical, dietary, and physical therapy to more than 3000 patients annually, representing nearly 200 different wildlife species. Much of the trauma experienced by wildlife is a direct result of interaction with humans. An important part of the C.R.O.W. mission is to increase public awareness of the perils to which wildlife is subjected in the face of continued land development and human population growth and activity. C.R.O.W. seeks to prevent these environmental hazards through a variety of educational programs designed to help us respect and protect our native wildlife populations and to preserve the delicate natural balance required by the habitat they must share.

Safety, Responsibility, and Risk Your safety is important to the Institute. We have established procedures to reduce medical emergencies and to provide treatment of those that nonetheless occur. Staff are trained to follow these procedures and receive additional training in driver safety, wilderness medicine, and the use of portable radios to contact National Park Service emergency services. But the Institute needs and expects participants to help us in these efforts by taking an active role in protecting themselves. Before arriving for a program, you should be careful to choose a program that is appropriate to your medical and physical condition, fully and accurately inform the Institute of relevant medical conditions consult with your personal physician about any relevant medical conditions, and secure all recommended clothing and equipment. Once you arrive, you need to continually monitor your condition and any external hazards, make prudent decisions, stay hydrated and well fed, and keep Institute staff informed of how they are doing.

General Information
The term "wildlife" should be interpreted as "nature" in its broadest sense wherever appropriate in this text.
The Beginning
The first meeting of wildlife photographers from different backgrounds took place in Strasbourg, in 1978, under the auspices of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe and at the initiative of the Association Sportive de la Chasse Photographique Française. The meeting was able to examine the various points of views, in a constructive way, taking into consideration national legislations, as well as the moral code voluntarily adopted by each association. The comparison between the various techniques of wildlife photography, with due respect to the quietness of the animals, gave this gathering its full significance. This meeting gave rise to the idea of creating an International Federation aimed at attempting to give wildlife photographers, from various countries, a common goal : the exercise of their activities with strict respect for nature, concern for authentic documentation and defense of their rights. Associations from France, Great Britain, Hungary and Italy then formed IFWP on the 14th of April 1980 for the purpose of promoting the Ethics of Wildlife Photography, and Nature Photography in general, and to set up common rules for all the members of the Federation.
