Classes, especially on the upper level, occur in a small setting that allows maximum individualized attention. Plus, students get the opportunity to develop leadership skills, work with campus and community projects, and take a course in free enterprise, by participating in SIFE, the Students In Free Enterprise organization. Our SIFE chapter has already been to two national competitions and won a regional competition. SIFE is integrally involved in the completion of the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail, a multi-use trail in Cherokee County connecting Kings Mountain with Cowpens National Battlefield. CACR Training Research Methods Training for Economic Development Practitioners sponsored by ACCRA Center for Applied Community Research National Association of State Development Agencies Research Division Mason Enterprise Center at George Mason University September 18-22, 2000 George Mason University, Arlington, Virginia, campus Economic Development is NOT an information business....Instead, it is a KNOWLEDGE business. Knowledge involves organizing data into information that can be processed by decision makers. Good economic developers can share data with their clients about their community’s economy. Great economic developers offer knowledge, bound in a sound understanding of the economy.
This training is designed to help economic developers find data, analyze information, and share knowledge. In its third year, “Research Methods for Economic Development Practitioners,” is designed to help economic developers become better analysts and help researchers build a foundation for their career. ACCRA, the National Association of State Development Agencies (NASDA), and the Mason Enterprise Center and the School of Public Policy at George Mason University (GMU) sponsor the training to build a better capacity within the economic development profession for understanding and analyzing regional economic information.
