This memo provides information about local parent resource centers and the Parent Educational Advocacy Training Center (PEATC) that you may share with school personnel and other groups in your school community. There are parent resource centers in 55 school divisions in Virginia. These centers offer training, information, and assistance to parents, free of charge, based on local assessments of need. Training for the staff in these centers is provided by the Department of Education. Additional training is frequently made available. Start-up funding is available to school divisions desiring to establish a center. PEATC is the parent information and training center funded by the United States Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs, for Virginia. PEATC offers training, information, and assistance to parents of students with disabilities throughout Virginia. PEATC offices are located in Springfield and Richmond.
