Course Prerequisites
All students are required to have their permit by the first day of class. The expectation is that they are to receive practice at home with a parent/guardian.
Parent/guardian expectations With the new graduated licensing law each student will have to document 40 hours of driving time (10 hours of night driving) with a licensed driver that is at least 25 years old before they can take their driving test. We believe that it is extremely important that all of our students receive at least 2 - 3 hours of practice each week at home. Each student needs time to practice the skills that we have been working on in the classroom and in the driver ed car. If the student does not receive practice outside of the driver education course it will be very difficult for them to be successful. We have included some resources to help parents/guardians out while driving with their children. These resources will help you to practice the specific skills that your son/daughter is being required to do in the driver ed car. Parent letter for all driver education students

Vermont Family Resource Partnership
Addison County Parent Child Center
Middlebury, Vermont Led by the Addison County Parent Child Center, the Vermont Family Resource Partnership (VFRP) is a cooperative effort among three Vermont organizations: The Vermont Parent Child Center Network (VPCCN), Parent to Parent of Vermont, and the Vermont Parent Information Center (VPIC). It combines and expands the resources of these organizations to assure the availability of comprehensive, coordinated family support and education services across Vermont. Through assistance and support, VPCCN helps families with young children better understand and participate in their children's social, emotional, and academic growth. Centers help families get off to a healthy start and prevent problems such as: illiteracy, poor health, welfare dependence, family violence, and sexual, physical, or emotional abuse. Parent to Parent of Vermont is a statewide support and information network for families whose children have a chronic illness or disability. It matches experienced, supporting parents who have children with disabilities with those families who are just beginning to meet the challenges of a disability within the family.

SPECIAL EDUCATION
(Updated 2/28/03) OVERVIEW
The department’s special education consultants provide technical assistance to schools and other organizations to help ensure that schools understand and comply with federal and state laws and regulations related to providing special education services. In addition, the special education division offers a due process procedure to parents who have concerns about the services offered to their children.
Under the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, or IDEA, Vermont is required to identify and evaluate students who have disabilities and to offer them individualized education programs (IEP) for special education and related services. Decisions regarding the services that are included in an IEP are made by a team using a process specified in the law. An IEP team includes a student’s classroom teacher, special educator, parent(s) and a representative of the school district who is empowered to commit resources such as staff time or funding. By law, schools are required to carry out provisions outlined in a student's IEP. LINKS TO CURRENTLY AVAILABLE INFORMATION

VERMONT IN THE NEWS CHILD ADVOCACY FILING A COMPLAINT 504 ACCOMMODATION S AND ADHD VERMONT EDUCATION REPORTS We provide support for parents of children experiencing significant trouble in the journey of growing up. These children often experience rejection from their siblings and peers and have great difficulty in social and educational settings. They fail to pick up the social 'cues' that most of us see easily. They may be quick to rise to anger, perpetually frustrated, irritable, moody, defiant, oppositional, in trouble with the law and have an emotional, behavioral, cognitive or physical disability. They are also sensitive, bright, compassionate and musically, athletically or artistically gifted. These children are at their worst when overpowered and at their best when empowered. They come from all walks of life and different backgrounds but they share one thing in common they are 'different' from their peers and 'at risk'. For every 'different' child, there is a story waiting to be heard and a family waiting to be accepted into our community. Parents of these children are often isolated from family and friends as a result of their child's behavior. Parents feel judged by others as 'bad parents' who should have applied more discipline. Many view these parents as the cause of their child's inappropriate behavior. Even some professionals believe if you 'fix' the parent, you will 'fix' the child and the disability will magically disappear. Isolated from the world of other parents and exhausted from the effort of parenting a child with challenging behaviors, many parents feel overwhelmed. Living each day with real and painful desperation, these parents do not know where to turn for help. We've created this site to guide Vermont parents to Internet resources for themselves and their children. We will help you find a friend to walk with and a supportive place to walk to. The joy is in our journey.
