The Attorney General provides resources for law enforcement though the criminal justice divisions of his agency. The divisions provide technical assistance in a number of key areas and are available to coordinate local, state and federal efforts when necessary to successfully combat multi-jurisdictional criminal actvity. The educational, investigational, and prosecutorial resources of the Attorney General's Office are readily available to augment other state agency, county or municipal resources. CRIMINAL LAW ENFORCEMENT CONFERENCE Each Fall, the Attorney General holds a three-day Criminal Law Enforcement Conference in Austin. This year's conference is scheduled for November 13-15, 2000. Higher Education Program General Information T he Higher Education Program at Texas Tech University is part of the Texas Tech University Division of Educational Psychology and Leadership. The program offers the Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree with a major in Higher Education and the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree with a major in Higher Education. M any classes at the Texas Tech campus in Lubbock are offered either in the evening or on weekends. Beginning in Fall 2000, four courses will be offered via the internet. With sufficient demand, courses may also be offered off-campus in Amarillo, El Paso and Odessa via Health Net Satellite classroom systems.

PHILOSOPHY
Language/literacy learning is a continuous process for becoming a responsible, productive member of society. Such learning is fostered in interactive environments where students are encouraged to take risks, both process and product are emphasized, affective and cognitive growth are inseparably linked, background experiences are valued, literate individuals model effective use of language and literature, and children's needs are respected. An environment rich in opportunities to read, write, and speak fosters life-time habits related to a zest for learning, critical thinking, and cultural and global understandings. MASTER OF EDUCATION
Students interested in pursuing a Master of Education Degree in Language/Literacy Education may choose either a 36-hour nonthesis plan or a thesis plan, which includes a minimum of 24 hours of course work and 6 hours of thesis research. Graduate students have the opportunity to develop a program tailored to their interests in reading, writing, and literature. The Language/Literacy Education courses are designed so that students may choose a K-6 or K-12 focus on language and literacy learning. Applicants for the master's program are selected on the basis of their professional goals and their academic performance. Applicants submit a written statement of their professional goals and evidence of their academic performance: GPA (last 60 hours of undergraduate work) and GRE scores.

At a time when parents are seeking the education that is best for their children, the Lubbock Independent School District is offering many choices through its magnet schools. The Lubbock Independent School District has eleven magnet schools. These magnet schools are located throughout the city. Magnet schools are provided at all levels. Estacado High School and Lubbock High School are the schools of choice at the high school level. Lubbock Independent School District has four magnet junior high schools: Cavazos, Dunbar, Hutchinson, and O.L. Slaton. Five elementary magnet schools offer unique opportunities to parents and students. The elementary magnet schools are Iles, Ramirez, Tubbs, Williams, and Roscoe Wilson.
