These standards may serve as benchmarks for measuring programming effectiveness; criteria for program evaluation; guidelines for program development; and recommendations for minimal requirements for high-quality gifted education programming. Several organizing principles guided the work of the task force, including:

Technology Standards for School Administrators
TSSA Draft (v4.0)
The Collaborative for Technology Standards for School Administrators (TSSA Collaborative) has facilitated the development of a national consensus on what P-12 administrators should know and be able to do to optimize the effective use of technology. This consensus is presented by the Collaborative (November 2001) as Technology Standards for School Administrators (TSSA). The Collaborative believes that comprehensive implementation of technology is, in itself, large-scale systemic reform. Leadership plays a key role in successful school reform. The CollaborativeÕs standards, therefore, focus on the role of leadership in enhancing learning and school operations through the use of technology. These standards are indicators of effective leadership for technology in schools. They define neither the minimum nor maximum level of knowledge and skills required of a leader, and are neither a comprehensive list nor a guaranteed recipe for effective technology leadership. Rather, these standards are a national consensus among educational stakeholders of what best indicates accomplished school leadership for comprehensive and effective use of technology in schools. The standards challenge almost every school administrator in some areas, yet each individual standard is attainable by the professional education leader. Although a national consensus, in no way should these standards inhibit new development, innovation, or progress for schools or for school leadership.

Through the support of product, monetary and volunteer donations, the North Texas Food Bank is able to make a variety of programs available to its member agencies. Member agencies include churches, charities, and social service organizations that receive food from the Food Bank and distribute it to people in need through pantries and on-site feeding programs.
The individuals and families that seek assistance from our member agencies come from a variety of backgrounds. Many of the North Texans seeking food assistance are the working poor. They must pay for rent, transportation and utilities first and hope that there is something left to purchase food for their family. They may also be someone who has lost their job or is dealing with the cost of health care expenses. Even natural disasters may play a part in adding to the strain of an already low income. The center's mission focuses on the quality of the diets of North Texans at risk of hunger combined with the realization that a tremendous amount of waste occurs in the fresh produce market. This program secures and distributes fresh fruits and vegetables, which are so vitally needed by Food Bank member agencies.

SREB Jennifer Burke August 1998 Technology Standards for Teachers “To be effective, technology certification for educators needs to be part of formal education policy and a required element of school and teacher evaluations. . . . Educators need a system of technology training and certification.” Council on Basic Education, 1998. The rapid increase in the availability of computers and other technology in schools represents a significant investment, and state leaders are concerned about results. To what extent does technology use result in improved student learning? Research has found that teacher skill in using technology is a major factor in improving student learning with technology. Teachers must know not only how to use technology but also when and why to use it. Teacher technology standards identify essential skills teachers need for effective use of computers and other electronic equipment in schools today. State teacher licensure and certification has not kept pace with rapid changes in technology and teaching. Linking technology skills assessments to licensing requirements helps ensure that teachers have the skills to support and guide students and to increase student learning using technology. Twelve SREB states have established teacher technology standards or guidelines that address several levels of competency:

STATE EDUCATION ACCOUNTABILITY SYSTEMS
Historical Profiles
More recent accountability profiles are available from the Consortium for Policy Research in Education Introduction Alabama Maryland ... North Carolina Introduction The Resource Center on Educational Equity of the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), in collaboration with the New England Comprehensive Assistance Center, has developed profiles of state education accountability systems. They are comprised of information about
  • statewide content and student performance standards statewide student assessments criteria to determine whether schools and school districts are in need of improvement or eligible to receive rewards how school and district performance is publicized the provision of rewards to schools and school districts actions at the local level to assist schools in need of improvement achieve satisfactory status actions at the state level to assist both school districts and schools in need of improvement to achieve satisfactory status corrective actions where schools or school districts in need of improvement have not made adequate progress or failed to meet other criteria for improvement
Several states have developed accountability systems on their own initiative, as part of their state school improvement planning. However, the standards, assessments, and other actions and processes referred to above also are required under Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act as amended by the Improving America's Schools Act of 1994. As reflected in these profiles, some states have integrated implementation of these requirements with their statewide accountability systems while others have separate systems in whole or in part.
