History of St. Vincent and the Grenadines as an Offshore Centre St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ history as a quiet, private offshore financial centre goes back decades. In 1976 the first laws were passes to allow the formation of international companies, insurance companies, trusts and banks. Swiss lawyers drew up the first legislation and together with the Government formed the St. Vincent Trust Service in Europe. The traditional involvement of the Swiss in our offshore finance sector, with their substantive expertise, encouraged the use of user-friendly company documentation (issuance with appropriate notarisation, with Appostilles attached). However the shape of its industry today was redefined in the late 1990s where a new package of offshore finance legislation was introduced and the supervisory body, the Offshore Finance Authority, (OFA), was created. The legislation comprised essentially of six Acts built on the fo undation that privacy and security can be offered and maintained with responsible supervision by the relevant authorities.

History The first people to discover St. Vincent (or " Hairoun ’’ as it was first known) and The Grenadines came in small craft from South America. First came the Ciboney, long before the ancient Pharaohs held sway over the Nile; then the peaceful Arawaks, who brought rudimentary farming and fishing skills with them. Shortly before the Europeans "discovered’’ the West Indies, the Caribs over-took their Arawak predecessors and worked their way north through the Caribbean islands. top of page and guide menu During that time, the Caribs were joined by slaves who had escaped bondage on Barbados and followed the prevailing trade winds westward to St. Vincent, as well as those who had survived shipwrecks near St. Vincent and Bequia. The mixed progeny of the island warriors and the freed Africans (who became known as Black Caribs), with their common distrust and hatred for the Europeans, proved to be a formidable foe. Reportedly, as the tribes of the Black Caribs increased, the original "Yellow’’ Caribs were pushed off their lands. Fearing complete domination, the Yellow Caribs allowed the French to construct a settlement on the island in 1719. With the French came slaves to work their plantations. The Black Caribs took to the thickly forested hills and continued their resistance.

Facts about Bequia
Geography
Located 13 degrees north of the equator and at 61 degrees longitude, Bequia is the most northerly of the Grenadines, a chain of islands which runs between St. Vincent on the north and Grenada on the south. The island is about 5 miles long and half a mile wide , rather hilly and green, with white sand beaches in most of the bays. The large natural harbour of Admiralty Bay is a popular yacht anchorage. North of Bequia, about nine miles across an open channel, is the main island of St. Vincent , whose capital, Kingstown , is the seat of government. Bequia’s population of about 5000 is mainly of African origin but with a liberal sprinkling of British and other European ethnic groups which results in considerable diversity. English is the language although visitors sometimes find the local dialect difficult at first to understand. The fact that there are many French place names reflects the historical battle for the area between the French and the British.
Political System
Bequia is part of the independent country of St. Vincent

    Geography
This small nation consists of three islands: Grenada, Carriacou, and Petit Martinique. Grenada is by far the largest of the three, with a width of twelve miles (18 km) and a length of twenty-one miles (34 km). Its 133 sq. miles (440 sq. km.) are mountainous, volcanic terrain, reaching heights of over 2,750 feet atop Mount St. Catherine. This topography provides Grenada with one of the loveliest and most varied environments in the Caribbean, including crater lakes as well as a startling variety of plant and animal life. Dwarf forests high atop Mount St. Catherine descend to the montane rainforests of middle altitudes, which give way in turn to the dry forests of the lowlands. Those forests shift to mangrove at the coast, giving way to stunning white sand beaches, brilliant blue water, and exquisite coral reefs. Grenada's smaller sister island, Carriacou, is hilly but not mountainous. With smoother terrain, Carriacou is an ideal destination for walking. It possesses fine sand beaches and natural harbours, as well as offering excellent views out over the northern Grenadine islands. Petite Martinique, the third and by far the smallest island in the state, consists of little more than the tip of a volcanic cone poking through the water. It is only now being developed for visitors. Location
The three islands of Grenada are located in the Eastern Caribbean at the southern extremity of the Windward islands, only 100 miles north of Venezuala. To the north lie St. Vincent and the Grenadines; to the south Trinidad and Tobago

    Visiting the Grenadines
By Gay Nagle Myers To vacation in Canouan is to experience a wrinkle in time Caribbean editor Gay Nagle Myers cast her vote for Canouan in the Grenadines, based on a recent visit. No recounts were necessary the destination is a shoo-in for top-end, low-key, well-traveled clients. Here is her report: We're going to Canouan (Can-no-wan)," I said to my husband. "Cannot wait," Tad said. "What is it? Where is it?" That's a typical reaction. Canouan, and indeed many of the islands that make up the single-nation destination known as St. Vincent and the Grenadines, is not high on anyone's Caribbean radar screen. Just my kind of place. Mountainous St. Vincent, with its dormant La Soufriere volcano, anchors the string of 32 islands and cays that arc 45 miles southwest through the Windward Islands to, but not including, Grenada (despite its name).
