The World's Religions: Our Great Wisdom Traditions
by Huston Smith Book Description:
Emphasizing the inner rather than institutional dimensions of [the world's major] religions, Smith devotes special attention to Zen and Tibetan Buddhism, Sufism, and the teachings of Jesus. He convincingly conveys the unique appeal and gifts of each of the traditions and reveals their hold on the human heart and imagination.
Every Day God: Messages from the Divine
by David Hose and Takeko Hose Synopsis:
When Takeko Hose was shot and paralyzed from the knees down, she and her husband, David, turned to prayer more fervently than ever. They received all they'd hoped for and more. Every Day God recounts the dialogues Takeko and David have engaged in with God for eight years. To them, God is akin to a warm and caring parent eager to nurture and love every child unconditionally. Moreover, with the right seeking, each person can access this divine source at the core of his or her being.

    26. UNIVERSAL NATURE OF SIKHISM AND SIKH DEFINITION
above, combine the philosophy of whole world Christianity in the west and allthe eastern religions. That is why we can call sikhism a UNIVERSAL religion.
    http://members.pgonline.com/~mpurewal/u-nature.html
UNIVERSAL NATURE OF SIKHISM AND SIKH DEFINITION
Dr Sukhraj S. Dhillon, Ph.D. USA There is an excellent dialogue among sikhs all over the world to define a sikh. The recent focus is the 1925 definition of a sikh and its endorsement among various groups. The discussion is about the definition of a Sikh as a "person who believe in the Guru Granth Sahib, believe in the Ten Gurus, and have no other religion."
The 1925 definition of a sikh in the spirit of universal nature of Sikh religion is an excellent effort, and I admire the endorsees of 1925 definition. However, we cannot ignore the Amrit and Khalsa aspect of Sikhism without clarification. The greatest contribution of the last living 10th Guru Nanak Guru Gobind Singh is the creation of Khalsa, the family of pure ones, to which a Sikh may belong through receiving baptism or initiation (Amrit/khande di pahul). Therefore, every khalsa is a Sikh but every Sikh is not a khalsa unless he/she receives baptism. Although Guru Gobind Singh offered the highest honor to Khalsa, he did not expect every Sikh to become khalsa. One of his most favorite poets Bhai Nand Lal and more than half of his other poets, for example, did not become khalsa. Therefore, Dashmesh Pita 10th Guru Nanak should have no objection to the definition of a sikh we are endorsing. This is a good lesson to avoid making it a controversial issue. (Going back to rahitnamas etc doesn't help. As many of us know that rahitnamas written by Chaupa Singh, Bhai Nand Lal, Desa Singh..... are not in agreement with each other.)

Religion The word "religion" has many meanings in popular speech. That is especially so if we consider how it is used globally for Western and Far Eastern religions. Only in the three Western religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) and perhaps one religion in the Far East (Sikhism) are questions about truth raised. Only the three Western religions have sacred scriptures, each of which claims logical or factual truth for its creedal doctrines and denies that the other two are as true as it is. The Old Testament is affirmed as the revealed word of God by religious Christians and also by the religion of Islam; but the New Testament and the Koran are not accepted as revealed truth by the Jews, and the New Testament is not accepted as reveled truth by the religion of Islam. When considering these three Western religions, all of which claim to be based on God's revelation of Himself, we must face the exclusionary character of logical truth. They cannot all be equally true. The question to be decided is which are more true than the others and which are less true. Only the three Western religions and one Far Eastern religion (the religion of the Sikhs) are monotheistic. Among the religions of the Far East, some are polytheistic and some are nontheistic. They are cosmological. Some are filled with myths that require interpretation and some, especially Hinduism, claim only poetical truth and so do not exclude other religions.

LIONS IN THE PUNJAB: An Introduction to the Sikh Religion
By Andrea Grace Diem, Ph.D. Chapter Three THE ESTABLISHING OF A WORLD RELIGION
When Guru Gobind Singh died in 1708 Sikhism did not die with him. Instead, it grew to almost twenty million adherents and is considered one of the major world religions today. Just how this guru bhakti movement in the northern region of India was able to survive and prosper is the subject of this chapter. We will examine several historical events that occurred from the time of Gobind Singh that can help explain Sikhism’s success. First of all, let us consider the genius of Gobind Singh himself. When a guru dies there is a chance that the group will peter out, particularly if he/she does not appoint a successor since disciples may turn to other living teachers of different lineages or traditions for guidance. But Gobind Singh prevented this when he assigned the guruship to the group’s religious writings, the Guru Granth Sahib. It was now to be revered as the living guru, the direct manifestation of God. And, since a book can not physically die, assuming there are enough copies available in case one gets destroyed, it offered permanent stability to the group and constant spiritual direction. Undoubtedly, the Guru Granth Sahib served as an inspiration during the politically troublesome years following Gobind Singh’s death. With the Mughals still in power in the region, Sikh resistance continued to grow. One Sikh military commander, Banda Bahudur, sought to finally end Mughal control. However, his efforts were shattered when he was captured and executed for failing to convert to Islam.

Simple genealogical math gives us a total of less than 6,000 years since God created Adam and Eve as described in Genesis , yet Science tells us the fossil records go back 3.6 billion years? How can we reconcile this paradox? See History: Life Evolves and Early Man Before Adam.

But Mohammed was the last and most perfect prophet. The Koran teaches that mans good and bad deeds are being recorded by each man's two recording angels and on the last day, Allah will weigh them in the balances. Some will go to paradise, where they will recline on soft couches with cups of wine, given to them by virgins, of whom each man may marry as many as he pleases. Others will go to Hell where they will be in unmerciful torment. If a man dies in war, defending Islam, he is guaranteed eternal life in paradise. The Bible teaches that God is not divorced from His creatures and loves man dearly. He is a God of love , grace and mercy and does call us children. Jesus Christ was called the Son of God. God desires a relationship with His children.
The Bible reveals that salvation can be certain and sin has been provided for through the death of Jesus. In Islam, Allah would never permit the suffering of an innocent on behalf of others let alone one of his prophets who he could easily rescue. God motivates man through grace, not fear , through relationship, not legalism. According to the Bible, Christianity was founded by a risen
