The Russian State University for the Humanities is an educational institution preparing specialists in all areas of knowledge in the Humanities. Drawing upon more than three hundred years of Russian higher educational tradition, as well as the experience (and example) of two unique Russian educational institutions - Moscow Public University named after Alfons L. Shanyavsky and Moscow State Institute for History and Archives - the RSUH is a rightful heir to the traditions of these excellent institutions in its mission to help revive the atmosphere of spirit and culture in education. The Moscow Public University, founded in 1908 on the initiative of the eminent Russian patron of the arts, Alfons Leonovich Shanyavsky, played a special role in Russian education. It was the center of enlightened and moral education right up to 1918, realizing the progressive principles of alternative education in conjunction with a sound educational foundation available to all. The Moscow State Institute for History and Archives, founded in 1930 as a center for the preparation of archivists, became over the years a focus of scientific research. In its archival pursuits in areas of history and such auxiliary realms as the study of primary sources, archaeology and palaeontology, it managed to preserve the very best of Russian research. By the beginning of the 1990's, this institution has achieved an actual university level which naturally enabled it to become the organizational heart of the RSUH, founded in 1991.

http://www.icp2008.de/Psychology_in_Germany/hauptteil_psychology_in_germany.html
Psychology in Germany Germany has been a home of psychology for the last five centuries. Classical and modern art, education, politics, and economics have supplemented and enriched psychological inquiries into human nature and have contributed to psychology's quest for improving the human condition. The scientific tradition of a German-language psychology dates back to Christian Wolff’s (1679-1754) treatises on empirical, theoretical, and practical psychology. The budding interest of educators, ministers, physicians, and humanists in psychology is documented in the “Magazin für Erfahrungsseelenkunde” edited by Carl Philipp Moritz (1756-1793). This publication was the first journal worldwide which dealt exclusively with psychological topics, such as personality assessment and the treatment of deviant behavior. Since the 19th century, German psychology has spawned a broad range of theoretical and methodological approaches, most notably physiological and experimental psychology (Ebbinghaus, Fechner, Münsterberg, Wundt), phenomenological psychology (Dilthey), gestalt psychology (Köhler, Lewin, Wertheimer), and the psychology of the unconscious (Carus). After the discipline had established itself in German universities as an independent field of study and research, it soon flourished as a profession. Between the two 20th century World Wars, many outstanding German psychologists emigrated to the USA, where they cultivated their schools in a more supportive environment. After World War II, psychology developed differently in East and West Germany, but they both maintained some common features (for example, action theory) that made them distinct from the Anglo-American mainstream psychology.

A disciplined orientation to the evaluation and production of scholarly work, in which critical thinking combines with a willingness to question foundational assumptions and openness to alternative perspectives and paradigms.
Familiarity with historical and current debates about the larger social and cultural context of modern psychology and psychotherapy and about the nature of social inquiry and of the philosophy of social science.
