History
The MacKintosh Clan owes its roots to the area known as Moray Firth , for it was here that the name "Mac an Toisich" was adopted. The name means " Son of the Chief or Thane".
History tells us that the Mackintosh line is descended from a junior son of the line of Mac Duff ancient Earls of Fife. Along the line one of the MacKintosh Chief's married the daughter of the Chief of Clan Chattan and with that act the chiefship passed unto MacKintosh and his decendents, where it remains in the MacKintosh line to this day.
The Clan Chattan Confederation is one of the largest and strongest in Scottish history.Among its many families and sept clans is the "Clan MacIntosh" heritable captains of the Clan Chattan. The history of the Clan Macintosh begins among the ancient Picts of Scotland. The Picts were one of the founding races of Scotland. They fought for control of the young

MARCH OF THE TITANS - A HISTORY OF THE WHITE RACE CHAPTER 28 : THE SCEPTERED ISLE - ENGLAND, SCOTLAND, WALES AND THE UNITED KINGDOM Part I : Ancient Britain Even its most vehement detractors will admit that the nation of Great Britain has been one of the foremost countries of modern Western Civilization. Its achievements are legion - at one stage its empire existed on all the continents of the world except Antarctica. Its language became the second most widely spoken language on earth (after Chinese) - its writers, poets and playwrights were the greatest the world has ever seen since the days of the Greek classics - and its history and culture has become ingrained in the traditions of many people on earth. Britain was also directly responsible for the initial mass settlement of the North American continent that, together with immigrants from the rest of Europe, created the giant that became America. The industrial revolution, which it spearheaded, shaped the infrastructure of the current world. Yet it is a small island, barely over half the size of France. The history of this island of kings and queens is remarkable one and worthy of an overview. Unfortunately much of English history is also filled with incessant petty squabbling and infighting.

One of my interests in Ancient History. This reaches from the dawn of civilisation in Mesopotamia, through the Bronze age peoples that inhabited Crete, Britain and Ireland, the Hellenic, Egyptian and Roman societies, up to the many nations and races that have spent the first thousand years post-Christ running around western Europe spreading their genes widely. Cultures of interest particularly are: Babylonians Sumerians Semites Assyrians Cretans Celts (got everywhere in Europe and maybe as far as China) Greeks Egyptians Romans, Angles, Jutes, Saxons, Danes, Celts, Scots (Irish), Picts and all the others that invaded Britain. Hadrian's Wall
During the reign of the Emperor Hadrian, a wall some 73 miles long was built across northern Britain. The wall was known as Hadrian's Wall . The wall separated the Roman Empire in Britain from the "barbaric" Picts in what is now Scotland. The Wall was 73 miles long and 5 meters high. It was built of cut stone and is considered one of the Roman Empire's greatest engineering feats. Placed at strategic positions along the wall were numerous forts. These forts were manned by Roman troops. Click Here To Continue Home

Ancient Battles of the Picts and the Brigantes
The Picts battle the Brigantes The Picts and Brigantes are two of the oldest pre-Roman inhabitants of Great Britain. Both inhabited and battled the Romans and each other for the lands of Northern England and Scotland. According to Britain Express the Brigantes were the most powerful Celtic tribe prior to the Roman invasion of 43 AD. Like the Picts and other Celtic tribes, the Brigantes were often matriarchical. They were ruled by queen Cartimandua when the Romans came. Initially they were friendly to the Romans, sometimes betraying other Celtic leaders to the invaders. Eventually, Cartimandua deserted her husband Ventius and fled Brigante territory. Ventius rebelled against the Romans but was defeated by Petillius Cerialis in 73 AD. They lived as a Roman protectorate until 138 AD when Antonius, for whom the Antonine Wall is named, pushed north from Hadrian's wall. The Brigantes fought, and eventually the Romans fell back to the more defensible Hadrian's wall. Examples of Brigante art and culture are available at the archaeology society Brigantes Nation . Especially notice the wonderful gold and bronze pieces of the Celtic Iron Age. More detailed information about early British tribes is located at Roman-Britain.org

The Picts The origins of the Picts are clouded with many fables, legends and fabrications, and there are as many theories as to who the Picts were (Celtic, Basque, Scythians, etc.), where they came from, what they ate or drank, and what language they spoke, as there once were Pictish raiders defying the mighty legions of Rome.
It was this rare form of succession which in the year 845 A.D. gave the crown of Alba and the title Rex Pictorum to a Celtic Scot, son of a Pictish princess by the name of Kenneth, Son of Alpin. This Kenneth MacAlpin, whose father's kingship over the Scots had been earlier taken over by the Pictish king Oengus, who ruled as both king of Picts and Scots, and who possibly harbored a deep ethnic hatred for the Picts, and in the event known as "MacAlpin's Treason" murdered the members of the remaining seven royal houses thus preserving the Scottish line for kingship of Alba and the eventual erasure from history of the Pictish race, culture and history. The true mystery in Pictish studies is the extraordinary disappearance of the culture of the tattoed nations of the North. The fact that within three generations of MacAlpin kings, the Picts were almost held in legendary status as a people of the past must be the real question to be answered, and the historian is consumed by legend, lack of facts and the nagging story of an obscure intrigue leading to genocide of a people, its customs, culture, laws and art.

For there is no historian of all those who have written on Ireland from that epoch that has not continuously sought to cast reproach and blame both on the old foreign settlers and on the native Irish. Lugodoc's Guide to Arthurian Myth
Following his obsessive re-chronicling of Irish and Welsh Celtic myth, Lugodoc felt compelled to tackle the big one: Arthurian Myth. King Arthur is without doubt the great, definitive British hero. There are an enormous number of sources of Arthurian myth, many referring to earlier known texts, and more referring to earlier lost texts. Very few tie in neatly with the commonly held image of the story of Arthur, and most hold many surprises.
The Evolution of the Myth
It seems to Lugodoc that "Arthur" was originally a Celtic title, meaning something like "bear of battle", and that more than one of these British heroes fought against the invading Irish, Picts, Danes, Jutes, Angles and Saxons in the chaotic century after the withdrawal of Rome from Britain. The mutation of the Arthurian story from dark age history into medieval romance seems to have occurred like this: Late 5 th century Romano-British Dux Bellorum (Lord of Battles) Arthur defeats Saxons at Mt Badon Early 6 th century Welsh Celtic chief Arthur defeats Modred at Cammlan th to 12 th centuries Christian monks write down history from the oral and earlier written records, confusing several Arthurs into one. The high-gravity hero myth attracts elements from Welsh-Celtic-pagan and Anglo-Christian history and myth, and begins to grow

Ancient art of the Picts, Scots, Irish, Norse, and other early civilisations
Just over a thousand years ago the Picts, an early Celtic people, disappeared as a distinctive nation, but they left behind, as a silent witness to their existence, a remarkable series of sculptured stones that is without parallel in Europe. The art of the Picts Scots Gaels Norse , as well as other ancient civilisations, is represented here in images found mainly, but not only, in Scotland:
  • Rock Art of the Scottish Neolithic period (3000 - 2000 BC) from around Kilmartin, Argyll, featuring cup and ring marks and spirals carved in stone. The art of the Picts, who occupied most of Scotland in the early medieval period, leaving behind an exquisite collection of stone-carved abstract and naturalistic designs. The simpler images date mainly from the 7th century AD, while the more complex ones, using Christian imagery, and merging influences from Irish and Northumbrian art to produce the magnificent cross-slabs, date from the 8th and 9th centuries. Images from the High crosses from Ireland and the amazing illuminated gospel manuscripts, such as the Book of Kells.
