If you really want to match wits with someone about deep issues, then you should be philosophy slamming. At least that’s what the guy behind the Kids Philosophy Slam wants you to think. The Slam is a philosophy contest targeted toward kids and teens worldwide. According to the Slam website (www.philosophyslam.org), "Each year a philosophical topic is chosen and students from 1st grade through 12th express their views on the philosophical topic posed." This year’s topic is a real humdinger: "Is the nature of humankind good or evil." Any student, from anywhere, can enter. All you have to do is choose good or evil and explain whyin 500 words or less. Instead of the 500-word essay, kids in grades 1-4 can write a story, draw or paint a picture, or use a combination of words and pictures to express their thoughts. There’s no entry fee. And all entries must be postmarked by January 21. Kids Philosophy Slam is the brainchild of the man who created the Great American Think Off in 1993, John P. Davis. The Think Off was similar to the Slam, and finalists debated their question in front of a live audience. Davis received so many entries for the Think Off from kids that he decided to create a contest specifically for them.

84. Happy Kids School -- School Philosophy
At Happy kids Preschool, we believe that children learn best by doing,by physically and concretely interacting with their environment.
http://www.happykidsschool.com.tw/philo.html
At Happy Kids Preschool, we believe that children learn best by doing, by physically and concretely interacting with their environment. We value active learning, where each child can explore and manipulate materials in order to acquire information. We promote and recognize the value of the process and involvement of the child over the product.
We believe that each child has an individual learning style, personality, rate of development and interests. Our teachers recognize each child's individuality and support each child's learning by individualizing our learning program to suit their unique needs.
We believe that children learn best and are most successful when there is cooperation and communication between the parents and the school. We encourage open dialogue between home and school. We support this through newsletters, parent-teacher conferences, open houses and Parent information sessions.
We believe that children are naturally curious and eager. We strive to create a success-oriented, pressure free learning environment.

MULTICULTURAL FOLKTALE DRAMA and OUR "PHILOSOPHY OF FUN"
Our name, K ids A ction T heater, says it all:
  • KIDS We're all about children and their development, helping them to learn and express themselves through multicultural folktale drama and arts in education. The future is in the hands of today's children - we believe that a focus on arts education is essential to world peace.
  • ACTION Children are natural kinesthetic learners; embodying a story (i.e., acting it out) is one of the best ways for them to mine all the riches of multicultural folktales. KAT materials, including Movement Stories, Plays and Musicals, give teachers the opportunity to use their students' natural propensity for action and movement as a learning tool, rather than a hindrance in the classroom.
  • THEATER Children love to playact! Teachers can take advantage of children's innate enthusiasm for creative dramatics by using KAT scripts as integrated curriculum, linking our multicultural folktale drama materials with other classroom subjects. Our teachers' guides help you to do just that!

Program Philosophy and Goals Our program was created to meet the developmental needs of children 2 through 6 years of age.
Providing practice in the areas of cognitive, perceptual, social, emotional, physical, creative and spiritual development is key to the child-centered program we have established.
Our staff is committed to offering the highest standard in meeting these critical developmental needs. Spiritual / Emotional / Social Development Teach your child to choose the right path and when they are older they will remain Upon it.

Matthew 25 37-40 D id you know that between the ages of 3 and 4 your child has potential to acquire thousands of new words? In fact, they may acquire as many as nine new words EVERYDAY! In just a few months your child will progress from sentences of five and six words, to a more complex construction of speech.
If English is a second language for your child, you will be amazed at the rapid growth in their language skills. However, exposure to language and vocabulary must be expressed in a MEANINGFUL context. Without meaningful exposure to spoken words, cells that allow the brain to construct sentences do not develop properly. Cells that are not stimulated will be die or be usurped by more aggressive cells in the brain.

Our philosophy is that children (infants and toddlers) are deserving of, and thriveon, being treated in a respectful manner. . © 2002, Hawaii kids At Work
http://www.hawaiikidsatwork.org/goals.htm
Welcome Photos of the Center and Clients Tuition and Fees Application ... Orientation Process Our Goals and Philosophy We believe that children are often their own best teacher. This means, given the right environment and continuous experiences which build trust, children will grow and develop as they should without us "teaching" them. Because of this, we do not attempt to "teach" children to sit up, walk, and so forth. Nature has equipped all healthy children with an "inner clock" 'which tells them when to achieve their developmental milestones. Our goal is to promote the growth of autonomy and trust within the child. Autonomy means being healthily independent - possessing a feeling of self-confidence and self-worth. lt means feeling comfortable with themselves as competent human beings. The growth of autonomy is fostered in a variety of ways - by having an environment in which expoloration is encouraged (with a minimum of no's), where many successes are "guaranteed' with age appropriate activities, and where some challenges exist in order to give the child a sense of achievement and allow him/her to develop further.

Sociability The Promotion of Balanced Mental Development CYBER Kids is an international pioneer in the design of curriculum that integrates educational content with mental development and social value. We operate on the assumption that cognitive abilities are the result of mental attributes such as creativity, imagination, innovation, initiative, memory, attention, extrapolation, time planning and management, sequencing and categorizing abilities, sensorimotor mental speed and integration, strategy building, self-reflection, self-esteem, leadership and many others. While a lot is being published on the role of computers and mental development, there is still no good definition of what the mental attributes are. Especially during the last decade, there has been considerable debate on the value, objectivity and relevance of such brain-ability measurements as IQ scores with respect to future success in life. While the 20th century motto was "more is better" in all aspects of life including mental abilities, the CYBER Kids thesis is that the fine tuning and balanced development of the various mental attributes is the decisive predictive factor for future success in life. Our research groups are active in both the area of defining the mental attributes that are important and decisive in child development as well as in designing computer-based learning scenarios and environments that optimise such attributes.

http://www.kbls.org/littleschool/philosophy.shtml
The Little School: Philosophy The philosophy of The Little School is to establish an environment where self-confidence and self-expression are encouraged, as is responsibility, decision-making and respect for others. Our home-like environment relies on exposure to broad-based early childhood curriculum. All activities are age appropriate and appeal to many personalities. Classrooms reflect the philosophy of the school. Children's work is prominently displayed; the rooms are comfortable, informal, well organized, and rich in materials. Teachers and children work together to establish an environment of cooperation, mutual respect, and are encouraged to use proper manners. Children are expected to share responsibilities for the classroom life, such as doing housekeeping and classroom management jobs. At the daily class meetings, children learn to exchange ideas and to listen to one another. They are helped to see the necessity of rules for cooperative living. The classroom is itself a community, a microcosm of the larger society.

Some important beliefs about our practice:
We believe in optimal dentistry , which means we are uncomfortable doing less for our clients than we would want in our own mouths or in the mouths of our children. We believe in complete diagnosis: We will be happy to discuss with you what this means relative to your child. We believe that nothing should happen to your child without your full knowledge, understanding and approval, and that you should have a full understanding of the fees associated with these recommendations before treatment is begun. We believe our commitment should extend beyond the child's teeth, oral tissue and jaw to the whole child and how he or she feels about the experience. It is our intent to create an environment that helps children accept dentistry as a natural and integral part of their health care, while providing an atmosphere to enhance development of their self-esteem and simultaneously reducing their fears.

We have quoted liberally from the books in the following bibliography In the following excerpts we think you will be struck by the problems all these people had in getting their message understood and how applicable their message and approach still is for our time! "The nonviolent approach does not immediately change the heart of the oppressor. It first does something to the hearts and souls of those committed to it. It gives them self respect; it calls up resources of strength and courage that they did not think they had. Finally, it reaches the opponent and so stirs his conscience that reconciliation becomes a reality." (Martin Luther King)
