Achieving Balance
Parkinsons Conference Offers Hope Positive Feedback from Parkinsons Conference Use It or Lose It 'Use it or lose it' was the fundamental message for those who attended Dr Peter Snell's workshop on exercise and aging at the Parkinsons International Conference in October. Dr Snell is the patron of Parkinsons NZ, a former Olympic athlete, has a doctorate in sports medicine and is an associate professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Texas, in Dallas. He is a keen advocate of a healthy, active lifestyle, and says it is the key to enjoying a vital older age. Now in his early 60s Dr Snell practises what he preaches and even jogged to one of his media interviews rather than taking up the option of a lift. He stressed that no matter what a person's health, there are still steps they can take to make the most of life. A wise diet, rich in antioxidants, combined with regular physical activity will go a long way to stave off any negative effects of aging. And although people with Parkinsons do have specific mobility problems, moderate exercise can only be beneficial, Dr Snell said. The stiffness and slowness associated with Parkinsons can be alleviated by a combination of aerobic activity such as walking, swimming, light weight training to increase muscle mass and strength, and stretching. Dr Snell also asked participants to complete a quiz to determine their biological as compared to chronological age, taking into account factors such as diet, daily activity and medical history, with some widely varying results!

http://www.enada-nadh.com/Enada_NADH_Parkinson's_Disease.htm
Enada/ NADH and Parkinson's disease Enada NADH , otherwise known as nicotinimide adenine dinucleotide, has proven itself to be remarkably useful in treating degenerative medical disorders. Those looking for a treatment for Parkinson's disease have found that depending on the stage of the disease before treatment, NADH yields many improvements.
Close to 3,000 European patients with Parkinson's disease have witnessed astounding improvements after nutritionally supplementing their diet with NADH . In other words, about 80 % of patients seen in Europe that suffer from Parkinson's disease experienced great improvements when treated with NADH. In the remaining percentage of patients who witnessed no change in condition, the disease had progressed to far, resulting in to much damage to the brain.
What characterizes Parkinson's disease?
Parkinson's disease is a degenerative brain disorder associated with several symptoms such as trembling and muscular rigidty, depression, and mental impairment. Usually appearing near the age of 40, the disease may eventually lead to incapacity as the brain cells which produce dopamine become inert.
A recent clinical trial investigating how the body can best and most efficiently use NADH , studied the responses of 885 patients with Parkinson's disease to NADH. Some patients received the compound by intravenous infusion while others received oral tablets. Reasearchers found that the oral supplement yielded greater results

How to Live a Healthier, Longer Life
I. Quit Smoking
  • Smoking is a disease producing, life shortening habit.
  • A pack a day smoker absorbs as much radiation in one year as he would if he had 200 X-rays of his chest.
  • Tobacco smoke contains tars, free radical * producing chemicals that can cause genetic mutations and lead to atherosclerosis and cancer
  • Smoke has acetaldehyde, a free radical former that leads to wrinkles and inelastic hardened arteries.
  • Smoke contains heavy metals—lead, cadmium, polonium, arsenic. These contribute to poisoning of our cellular metabolism.
  • Smoke contains carbon monoxide, which reduces the blood’s oxygen carrying ability.
  • Smoke contains nicotine, which causes the blood vessels to constrict.
  • Pot smokers are no better off; similar problems plus paraquat, which is a free radical chemical.
II. Avoid Smoke-Filled Environments

Drug may provide new hope for Parkinson's treatment
VIDEO CNN's Rhonda Rowland reports on a new drug that may help treat Parkinson's Windows Media July 26, 1999 Web posted at: 3:01 p.m. EDT (1901 GMT) From Medical Correspondent Rhonda Rowland VANCOUVER, Canada (CNN) Researchers say a new type of drug may revolutionize the treatment of people in the early stages of Parkinson's disease. The drug, called ReQuip, is in a new class of drugs known as dopamine agonists. ReQuip is known generically as ropinirole. A multi-national, five-year study shows patients who took ReQuip were 15 times less likely to develop the troublesome side effects associated with the drug L-dopa, which is the current standard treatment for Parkinson's. These side effects were described as involuntary, flailing or jerky movements, known medically as dyskinesias.

Case History 1
This patient was a 39 year old Caucasian female who was presented to our center with a history of more than twenty years of multiple organ system complaints. The following are a list of those complaints that also fit the CDC criteria for the CFIDS:
  • Chronic Fatigue Fibromyalgia pain Eczema Itching and watery eyes Chronic post nasal drainage Chronic sore throats Chronic bad taste and breath Wheezing Chronic dry cough and mucus production Night sweats Abdominal cramping, flatulence and diarrhea Muscle pain Morning muscle stiffness Leg cramps Restless legs Hypersomnia Difficulty in concentration Sensitivity to chemicals Sensitivity to dust, pollens, molds and foods Headache
  • During the physical exam it was found that the patient had multiple trigger points in various areas on the back, but not the criteria for fibromyalgia. The only other significant finding was that of exogenous obesity. The laboratory studies revealed the following:
  • Hyperinsulinemia Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Elevated blood levels of DDE (a metabolite of DDT) Autoimmunity with a positive SS-A antibody Syndrome X Deficiencies of calcium, magnesium, potassium, selenium and phosphorous on the red blood cell mineral analysis
