Gold Beach/Chetco Ranger Districts' new top man introduced -
The almost 500,000 acre Biscuit Fire is nearly contained, several incident commanders and information officers told the Curry County Board of Commissioners Tuesday, September 3 in Gold Beach.
The BOC was also introduced to John Borton, newly appointed District Ranger for the Gold Beach/Chetco Ranger Districts.
Fire officials attending the update included Brian Morris, information officer carried over from the Vail team; Roland Emetaz, information officer; Jim Furlong, new incident commander of Zone 4 who is the leader of the Washington team; John Borton, GB/Chetco Ranger Districts; Dennis Sifford, incident commander Zone 3; David Dash, incident commander Zone 3 from Alaskan team; Bill Beebe, Zone 3 information officer; Mike Robison, manager of Coos Forest Protective Association.
Dash said the main concern in his zone for the past few days has centered around Mislatnah Creek. Several runs by the fire kept the crews busy all week, he said. But, he explained, spots haven't grown even though for a time there were areas where officials couldn't put people. The spread was kept in check by helicopters until people could return the past two days, he added.
Division Oscar (south Chetco area) was not fully contained Tuesday morning, Dash said. But Zone 3 should be contained sometime Tuesday by the close of business, he said. Already crews have commenced rehab of lines.

What is the Business Education Compact? The word 'Compact' literally means 'a pact or covenant between 2 or more parties'. In our case the pact is to promote excellence and relevance in education to develop a better prepared workforce for the future, and the parties to the covenant are the business and education communities of Linn and Benton counties. The Linn-Benton Business Education Compact is a non-profit 501c(3) corporation. Where did it originate? The Compact was modeled after an established Compact in Beaverton and is similar to other Compact organizations on the East Coast. The Linn-Benton Business Education Compact was initiated in January 1992, formally established and incorporated in September 1992, an Executive Director hired in Febuary 1993 and programs initiated across the region in March 1993. What is the Compact's objectives?
    • Developing programs to promote improvement in math/science education. Promoting further development of educators in understanding business needs and objectives. Developing programs for school-to-work and providing resources to local students and businesses.
