Offers research services in the libraries at Duke University and UNCChapel Hill.
http://members.aol.com/uncjud/genealogy.html

Research Services covering all counties in North Carolina Services provided by Jud Campbell About Me: I am currently a student at UNC-Chapel Hill. I have been doing genealogical research for five years. I have experience with article preparation as well as professional research. My primary regional focus has been North Carolina and New England. I am currently doing genealogical research on Orange County and Durham County North Carolina families from 1752 to about 1880. I follow the guidelines for research presented within the BCG Standards Manual. I will give you honest and quality work for prices much lower than a usual professional genealogist. Services Available: I will perform lookups in specific books selected by the customer or research on a particular subject as specified by the customer. Requests should be specific enough that a reasonable search is possible. You should be aware that I am not a professional genealogist. Rather, I am a college student who has genealogical experience and talent as well as immediate access to extensive resources on North Carolina genealogy. You may wish to use me as a first option before going to a more expensive genealogist with more expertise and resources. Available Resources: The resources that I use are those that are available in the libraries of Duke University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the State Library of North Carolina.

About North Carolina ECHO
North Carolina ECHO, E xploring C ultural H eritage O nline , is an evolving statewide, collaborative access to special collections and digitization project. Funded through a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) Grant and managed by the State Library of North Carolina, this innovative project was one of the first in the nation to build a statewide framework for digitization and addresses a full-range of digitization needs of the state's cultural collecting agencies (libraries, archives, and museums).
Background
The North Carolina State Library Commission adopted "Building LibrariesA Plan for Library Cooperation" on June 14, 1999. As a part of that plan, the Commission stated its intent to increase Internet access to the state's "specialized resources." The Commission created the Access to Special Collections Working Group (ASCWG) to meet this goal. Duke University and the State Library of North Carolina applied for and received a federal LSTA grant to fund that group's operation. ASCWG has representatives from public and private academic libraries, public libraries, archives, private museums and public museums. In March 2000, seeking greater input from their colleagues, ASCWG called a conference of North Carolina cultural heritage caretakers and stakeholders who met for two days in High Point, N.C. Following a review of other statewide initiatives, this group of approximately 100 persons from across the state directed ASCWG to create a Web portal to organize and present the digital resources already created by North Carolina's cultural agencies. This "High Point Group," named for their initial meeting location, also asked ASCWG to gather information about North Carolina's cultural heritage community via a statewide survey and create a long-term vision and plan for the project, including the identification of standards for participating agencies to follow, and the development of a Web portal.

http://docsouth.dsi.internet2.edu/

Documenting the American South (DAS) is a collection of sources on Southern history, literature and culture from the colonial period through the first decades of the 20th century. It is organized into the projects listed above. The Academic Affairs Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill sponsors DAS, and the texts come primarily from its Southern holdings. An editorial board guides its development. As of April 1, 2003, DAS includes 1,225 books and manuscripts. Most are accompanied by a full bibliographic record. We invite libraries to include bibliographic information on texts of interest in local online catalogs. Catalog records for these electronic texts are available in OCLC’s Worldcat and in UNCChapel Hill'’s OPAC at: http://web2.lib.unc.edu/

Welcome to the North Carolina Chapter of the Special Libraries Association
Welcome to the home page for a geographically and professionally diverse group, the North Carolina Chapter of the Special Libraries Association.
We are information services professionals working, both physically and virtually, for organizations ranging from corporations to museums, newspapers, hospitals, government agencies, academic libraries and more. Attend our meetings and you will find a lively and collegial group. Join the Special Libraries Association and you will be part of an international network of knowledge workers. Attending an NC/SLA meeting is a great place to start; get to know us today!
For those of you who are already SLA members, here is what some of our well-known names and faces had to say recently, when I asked them for their insights on volunteering for chapter work:
Ann Stringfield : As a true introvert, I realized that to become more comfortable at NC/SLA meetings, the most efficient path was to volunteer for any committee task or elected position. You attend a few extra meetings, do a little extra work, and learn a few things you never intended to. And before you know it, you actually *know* several folks by name, are more comfortable within the crowd, and as a bonus, have gained insight into some committee process as well. When all's said and done, those people and insights come in handy in your day to day work, whether in calling on NC/SLA members for help or advice, or working with other teams in your everyday workplace.
