INTRODUCTION Netherlands Antilles Introduction Top of Page Background: Once the center of the Caribbean slave trade, the island of Curacao was hard hit by the abolition of slavery in 1863. Its prosperity (and that of neighboring Aruba) was restored in the early 20th century with the construction of oil refineries to service the newly discovered Venezuelan oil fields. The island of Sint Maarten is shared with France; its northern portion is named Saint Martin and is part of Guadeloupe. 1UpTravel's Guide to Netherlands Antilles Geography of Netherlands Antilles - Highlights the location, map references, area, land boundaries, climate, natural resources, land use, natural hazards, environment, and geography of Netherlands Antilles

The islands are divided into two widely separated groups located approximately 500 miles apart. The northern group, also known as the Windward Islands, includes Saint Eustatius, Saba, and the southern part of Saint Martin. The two southern islands are Bonaire and Curaçao. Quota International of Curaçao is based in the capital port city of Willemstad.

The first inhabitants of the island were the Caiquetos, a peace-loving tribe of Arawak ancestry. The Spanish were the first Europeans to arrive on the island, led by Alonso de Ojeda in 1498. The Spaniards remained in control of the island until 1634, but they did little to develop the colony because they were unable to find any deposits of gold. Instead, they transported the natives to work as slaves on Hispaniola. By the time the Dutch took possession of the island, there were only about 400 indigenous people remaining in Curaçao. Under Dutch control, the island developed agriculture and salt harvesting. By 1795, Willemstad became important in slave trading. In the early 1800s, Holland briefly lost control of Curaçao to the British, but soon regained possession in 1816.

Willingness to cooperate
How can the cooperation in the integral youth policy of the relevant authorities, institutions and the different policy levels of all sectors be shaped? Willingness to cooperate is most important with that. Political will and administrative willpower can clear a way for that willingness. Communication is of essential importance here. For this a structure for co-operation and consultation connections must be established.

Adjusting political-administrative culture
The cooperation between managers, functionaries and executors often is not optimal due to the political-administrative culture. In the Netherlands Antilles not frequently it happens that managers and functionaries claim powers and responsibilities. But actual initiatives they prefer to leave to others. In Holland we often come across the opposite. If there must be cooperation then one has to respect each other's vision. One will have to pass over indistinct allocation of tasks. The adjusting of the inclination to claim but however awaiting further steps must happen first at the highest levels. The lower ones can then follow the good example.

Island Youth Councils
It is the Commissioner for Youth's task to tune the policy of the different sectors to each other. A structure for that tuning can be found in an island youth deliberation. The island youth policy will be expressed in a policy view, which results in definite objectives and priorities.

Football (Soccer)
Source thereggaeboyz.com Available records indicate that football (soccer) was introduced in Jamaica towards the end of the 19th century and 1893 is listed as the year Jamaica formed its first football club. Jamaica's first international appearance was against their Caribbean neighbours Haiti in 1925. Andre Chevalon, President of the United Sporting Society invited Jamaica to the French-speaking Caribbean island for a three-match series between the two countries. Jamaica won all three games by 1-0, 2-1 and 3-0. The following year Jamaica hosted their Haitians counterparts at Sabina Park and won by 6-0. The Haitians remained frequent opponents and it was not until 1932 that their run of defeats was broken with a 4-1 home win in Port-au-Prince. Between 1925 and when Jamaica gained it's independence 1962, Jamaica had regular games with Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti, Cuba. Jamaica also played with clubs such as Racing and Violette from Haiti, Corinthians of Britain, the Tigers from Argentina, and even a series of matches with a Caribbean ALL Stars team in 1952. The Caribbean All Stars team included such notables as Michael (The Ruin) Kruin from Suriname and also representing Jamaica were Lindy Delapenha and Gillie Heron. The four games were shared equally with Jamaica winning the second 2-1 and the fourth 1-0 and the All Stars winning the first 5-1 and the third 1-O.

for the Bonaire Newsgroup This pristine 13,500 acre natural park offers an excellent introduction to the landscape and vegetation of Bonaire. Covering almost one-fifth of the island, the park offers hills with scenic vistas, vast saline plains, beaches and trees filled with exotic birds. Animal life includes wild donkeys, goats and iguanas. There are also spots that offer excellent snorkeling and diving . Depending on the amount of time visitors have to explore, they can choose different routes through the park. There are two driving trails, the shorter, green route of 28 km (17 miles), which takes about two hours to travel, and the longer, yellow route of 45 km (28 miles), which takes about four hours. These are rugged dirt roads, and only four-wheel drive vehicles are recommended. In the center of the park, there is also a walking trail up to Brandaris, the highest hill of Bonaire which offers a wonderful view of the island, and only takes about three hours round trip. The park is open daily from 8 am to 5 pm except on official holidays.
