    NATIONAL HOLIDAY OF MONGOLIA-NAADAM
11 July- Mongolian national holiday (Naadam). The festival of Naadam opens with competitions in national wrestling, horse racing and archery, our traditional classical sports which we call "eriin gurvan naadam" ("The three Games of Men "). This festival celebrated in Mongolia an-nually, originaled many centuries ago.
Wrestling When a wrestler touches the ground with any part of his body other than his feet and palms, he is considered to be defeated. The main difference between Mongolian national wrestling and international free-style wrestling is that the weight category of wrestlers is not taken into consideration.
Horse racing Mongolian people have Ioved horse racing since time immemorial. There is a whole system for conducting the contests, a system that stock-breeders evolved over the centuries. In the races held during national festivals, including the Naadam, the participants are in six age groups and the distance ranges from 15 to 30 kilometres. No special tracks are prepared, the horses covering the distance in the steppe and jumping over natural barriers. Before the start the riders sing an ancient warlike song-Giingoo. First, the competitors go to the finishing line, and from there to the starting line, where the signal to start is given. Thus the distance is actually doubled. The horse racing can be held on saddled or unsaddled horses. Horses of two years and above take part. The winner is honoured with a cup of airag which he drinks and sprinkles on the head and croupe of his horse. After the racing, praise-singers extoll the best riders and their horses.

Hardback 328pp ISBN 0804742618 AU$100.00 20 illustrations, 4 maps Presenting a new approach to the history of Chinese kinship, this book attempts to bridge the gap between anthropological and historical scholarship on the Chinese lineage by considering its development in terms of individual and collective strategies. Based on a wide range of newly available sources such as lineage genealogies and stone inscriptions, as well as oral history and extensive observation of contemporary ritual practice in the field, this work explores the historical development of kinship in villages of the Fuzhou region of southeastern Fujian province.
In the late imperial period (1368-1911), the people of Fuzhou compiled lengthy genealogies, constructed splendid ancestral halls, and performed elaborate collective rituals of ancestral sacrifice, testimony to the importance they attached to organised patrilineal kinship. In their writings on the lineage, members of late imperial elites presented such local behavior as the straightforward expression of universal and eternal principles. In this book, the author shows that kinship in the Fuzhou region was a form of strategic practice that was always flexible and negotiable. In using the concepts and institutions of kinship, individuals and groups redefined them to serve their own purposes, which included dealing with ethnic differentiation, competing for power and status, and formulating effective responses to state policies.

    History of China
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. China is the oldest continuous major world civilization, with records dating back about 3,500 years. Successive dynasties developed a system of bureaucratic control, which gave the agrarian-based Chinese an advantage over neighboring nomadic and hill cultures. Chinese civilization was further strengthened by the development of a state ideology based on Confucianism and a common written Chinese language that bridged the gaps among the country's many local languages and dialects. Whenever China was conquered by nomadic tribes, as it was by the Mongols in the 13th century , the conquerors sooner or later adopted the ways of the "higher" Chinese civilization and staffed the bureaucracy with Chinese.

Old History Kutaisi is one of the ancient towns of the world. The history of its foundation comes from ancient times. It was founded on the place which was considered as the best and most productive lands of ancient Colchi. Three trading ways were joined there: one of them came from Iberia, the second one from south and with the help of the third way Kutaisi was connected with the ports of the Black Sea not only by caravans but also by the river Rioni. The suitable geographical position of Kutaisi was noticed even in the early period and because of this it became inhabited already in old times. The history of Kutaisi comes from the time when all Colchi kingdoms came into being. The reflection of power of this kingdrom is the remarkable monument of ancient Greek epos - A Myth about Argonauts which was created in the second millennium BC. According to the poem of Apollonius Rodiusi the naming of the king of Aea (Colchi) as Cytaea proves that Kutaisi was considered to be the capital of Colchi Back

A short history of the Rechitsa district and other parts of southeastern Belarus
    Nature
The old Rechitsa district is in a landlocked wedge of land that sticks out from southeastern Belarus into Ukraine. The Dnieper, a large river that winds its way down from northwestern Russia to the Black Sea, forms the eastern boundary. If you cross the Dnieper from the city of Rechitsa and travel 71 miles, you reach Chernigov (Chernihiv), an ancient, historic city. If you float 134 miles south along the Dnieper, you soon get to Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. The Dnieper empties into the Black Sea at Odessa, Cherson and Mykolayiv. The Pripet River, a smaller river that flows east from western Ukraine, then heads south and empties into the Dnieper, forms the southern and western boundaries. The first south of the Pripet whose name is familiar to Americans is Chernobyl. Chernobyl is 76 miles south of Rechitsa. The town of Pripet, the town that is actually closest to the infamous nuclear power plant, is 69 miles south of the city of Rechitsa, and just across the Pripet River from the boundary of the old Rechitsa district. The famous old city of Pinsk is 181 miles west of the city of Rechitsa. It sits on the Pripet River.

Hindu kings rule the area around Kutai on Kalimantan. "Langasuka" kingdom founded around Kedah in Malaya. Hinduism , one of Indonesia's five religions. Early civilization in Java and Sumatra was heavily influenced by India. Today's cultures in Indonesia, and even the language, still show influences from the Sanskrit language and literature. Buddhism reaches Sumatra. Records from these days in Indonesia are scarce, but we do know that sophisticated cultures already existed. The kings and cities of Sumatra and Java are mentioned in records from China, because ambassadors were sent there. Arabs and Persians knew about the area from traders, and even the Greeks and Romans had very distant reports. Records from inside Indonesia are very few, though, since writing was done on palm leaves and other materials that did not survive well. Much of our knowledge comes from stone buildings and inscriptions. By the time we start to get a clear history of Java and Sumatra, there are already great buildings in stone, fine sculptures, classical music and dance, much as we know them today.
