The ten Big School Newsletters are sent to students that have registered for kindergarten. The goal of the newsletter is to help these students prepare for kindergarten by addressing concerns about what will happen at "Big School," by encouraging development of reading skills, providing self-assurance about the new adventure they are about to begin. The letters are sent every week throughout the summer before the children start kindergarten.

Mission Statement The Mission of SIDS Resources, Inc. is to create a community where all babies are healthy throughout the first year of life and:
  • Where professionals and the community understand the risk factors for SIDS and infant death and use healthy and safe infant care practices.
  • Where families and professionals affected by the death of a baby receive supportive services and education.
  • Where research to stop SIDS and infant death is supported.

Services Family Counseling
Professional counselors are available to work with families, friends, and child care providers to offer support after the loss of a baby. Staff also offer current medical information about SIDS. Services include:
  • Individual Counseling
  • Peer Contact
  • Home Visits
  • Research Update Meetings
  • Support Groups
  • Quarterly Newsletters and Monthly Updates
Our counselors also work with the health care provider network and volunteers to coordinate the best possible support following the death of a child. Professional Education Opportunities SIDS Resources conducts presentations, attends professional conferences and provides information for physicians, nurses, health educators, police, paramedics/EMTs, social workers, child care providers, and parent educators on SIDS research, risk reduction recommendations, emergency response and bereavement for any infant death. Presentations ensure professionals are aware of the latest and most accurate information on Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and that professionals are prepared to effectively assist families experiencing this terrible tragedy. Trainings can also be custom-designed for clergy, civic groups and other professionals interested in learning more about SIDS and coping with infant death. "The video coupled with the expert's knowledge of the latest research, demonstrates to the officer the best way to handle this very sensitive issue."
