Geography
The beaches in the south consist of white sand and in the other parts of the island are covered with gray or black volcanic sand.
Population Like much of Indonesia, Bali has a high population density with three million inhabitants, of which 95% are ethnic Balinese and also Hindus, surrounded by sea of 190 million Muslims. Most of the population lives in the rural villages of the southern half of the island.
Denpasar, the Capital of Bali is the largest city and administrative center of the island and has 400.000 inhabitants.
Climate Bali has an even and warm climate of the tropics - eternal summer and nice sea breezes with a high humidity of around 75 %.
There are two seasons: rainy season - musim hujan- last from October to April, and the west monsoon can bring heavy showers and high humidity, but usually days are sunny and the rains start during the night and pass quickly, and the dry season - musim panas- runs from May to September.During this time of the year you will have hardly any rain in the coastal areas and it will be pleasantly cool in the evening. However in Ubud and the mountains you must expect cloudy skies and showers throughout the year.

TraveLearn Cybertravel News Indonesia - Volume 18 Indonesia Trivia
Indonesia is the most diverse country in the world. Its 190 million people comprise some 50 large ethnic groups, and 250 smaller ones. Its approximately 18,000 islands range from tiny atolls to the second and third largest islands in the world, some covered with humid rain forests and dense tropical growth, parts of others parched and barren. Indonesia Book Selections
Yesterday and Today - These book selections reflect TraveLearn's tour philosophy of exploring, explaining, and teaching - not only about ancient traditions and cultures, but also providing insights into contemporary local customs and the current social and political situations in various destinations. Indonesia Yesterday and Today The Island of Bali by Adam Schwarz , 1993, paperback by Westview Press in 1999. Written by a correspondent for the Far Eastern Economic Review, this book provides an outstanding description and analysis of Indonesian politics. While the book was written before Suharto was forced to step down as president in 1998, the author predicted the economic crisis that would create an even greater income gap and dissatisfaction among the poorer native Indonesians and the minority and richer Chinese Indonesians. An excellent introduction to the politics and complex issues confronting one of the most diverse countries in the world. Indonesia Recipe Selection

Indonesia
Introduction [Top of Page] Background: The world's largest archipelago, Indonesia achieved independence from the Netherlands in 1949. Current issues include: implementing IMF-mandated reforms of the banking sector, effecting a transition to a popularly elected government after years of rule by dictators, addressing charges of cronyism and corruption among the Chinese-dominated business class, dealing with alleged human rights violations by the military, and resolving growing pressures for some form of autonomy or independence in certain regions such as Aceh and Irian Jaya. On 30 August 1999 a provincial referendum for independence was overwhelmingly approved by the people of Timor Timur. Concurrence followed by Indonesia's national legislature, and the name East Timor was provisionally adopted. The independent status of East Timor has yet to be formally established. Home About Us Search Indonesia's Main Page Indonesia's Geography Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world. It consists of five major islands and about 30 smaller groups. The figure for the total number of islands is 17,508 according to the Indonesian Naval Hydro-Oceanographic office. The archipelago is on a crossroads between two oceans, the Pacific and the Indian ocean, and bridges two continents, Asia and Australia. This strategic position has always influenced the cultural, social, political and economic life of the country. The territory of the Republic of Indonesia stretches from 6 o 08' north latitude to 11 o 15' south latitude, and from 94 o 45' to 141 o 05' east longitude. The Indonesian sea area is four times greater than its land area, which is about 1.9 million sq. km. The sea area is about 7.9 million sq. km (including an exclusive economic zone) and constitutes about 81% of the total area of the country. The five main islands are: Sumatra, which is about 473,606 sq. km. in size; the most fertile and densely populated islands, Java/Madura, 132,107 sq. km; Kalimantan, which comprises two-thirds of the island of Borneo and measures 539,460 sq. km; Sulawesi, 189,216 sq. km; and Irian Jaya, 421,981 sq. km, which is part of the world's second largest island, New Guinea. Indonesia's other islands are smaller in size. The archipelago is divided into three groups. The islands of Java, Sumatra and Kalimantan, and the small islands in-between, lie on the Sunda Shelf which begin on the coasts of Malaysia and Indo China, where the sea depth does not exceed 700 feet. Irian Jaya which is part of the island of New Guinea, and the Aru Islands lie on the Sahul Shelf, which stretches northwards from the Australian coast. Here the sea depth is similar to that of the Sunda Shelf.

    Indonesia
Indonesia is located of the east coast of Asia in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Indonesia is made up of tons of little and big islands. One of them is Kilamanta. It occupies two-thirds of the southern island of Borneo. It is the largest territory in Borneo. Also there are others like the Greater Sunda Islands which include Borneo, Celebes, Java, and Sumatra. Borneo is the third largest island besides Greenland and New Guinea. Indonesia lies on the equator so it is really hot. Indonesia's republic population is 187,600,000. It has probably had annual growth over the years.
That population was taken in 1993. The soil is predominantly infertile because of the leaching. Most of the petroleum is extracted from eastern Sumatra and Kilamanta. Indonesia is the biggest producer of liquefied natural gas. Indonesia highest elevation is 16,503 feet. Indonesia is about 25% as large as the U.S.A. Indonesia is
covered with rain forests. Much of the country has mountains. Some of the territories are so large that they take up most of Indonesia. A large island we already mentioned is Kilamantan. It takes up 28% of Indonesia. The territories Irian, Jaya, they take up the western half of New Guinea. New Guinea takes up 22% of Indonesia. Many peaks in Indonesia are between 6,000 and 12,000 feet high. Indonesia stretches over 3,200 miles. The eastern territories of Indonesia are believed to have been a part of Australia, but at some point it drifted or broke away from that continent. There are more than 400 volcano but only 60 are active.
