Pilot Program Downloads
DOWNLOAD METHODS and INSTALLATION: No 'Aider' versions installed:
You will need the ' FULL INSTALLATION
' pilot version which will involve downloading 2 files - a pilot installation and the main program files. Download and unzip the contents of both files into the same temporary folder/directory and install the program from that folder/directory in the normal way as one installation. Note : If you are downloading more than 1 pilot, the second installation file (f_inst.zip) need only be downloaded once - it can be used for all of the pilots. This second file is also the same as is used for the main Aider programs. If you already have any version of 2.3, 2.4 or 2.5 installed: You will need the (different) ' SUPPLEMENTARY ' pilot version. Download and unzip the 1 file into a new folder/directory and create a shortcut (Windows 95/98/NT) or a Program Manager icon (Windows 3.1x) for the 's_aider2.exe' file.

Links: LOCATION BACKGROUND LEADERSHIP MEETINGS ... Return to Welcome page. LOCATION th Port Dollymount Sea Scouts are located on the Bull Island in Dublin Bay. Our den is located by the Bull Island cottages just over the wooden bridge. BACKGROUND There has been a near continuous scouting presence on the island since 1912, and 5 th Port scouts are more than proud of the great tradition of scouting which has been passed down to them since the early days of the scouting movement. For more information on the history of our troop click here LEADERSHIP th Port has a well structured leadership, with the adult leaders all having been scouts within the troop in the past. Our present skipper is Daniel Kennedy. Answering directly to the Skipper and other adult leaders are the watch leaders, responsible scouts chosen by their peers, and together they decide the day to day programme of the troop. MEETINGS The troops main meeting is the Wednesday night parade at 20:00hrs. During this parade the scouts are instructed in many aspects of seamanship, safety and scouting, as well as First Aid and Resuscitation. This is to ensure that our activities are carried out competently and safely. We also play games and have competitions on 'Wednesday Parade' which finishes between 21:45hrs and 22:00hrs.

The Dress Rehearsal. AT last the great day arrived-Friday, July 30th, 1920, the day on which H.R.H. The Duke of Connaught was to open the Jamboree. Previous to the arrival of the Royal Party an inaugural luncheon was served in the Pillar Hall over which Sir Samuel Waring presided, supported by the Chief Scout. About 150 guests were present when the, Chief read the following letter from His Majesty the King: Buckingham Palace, "July 30th, 1920. To Lieut.-General Sir ROBERT BADEN-POWELL, K.C.B., K.C.V.O. "I am much gratified that the First Boy Scouts' International Jamboree, to the organisation of which you have so zealously devoted yourself, should be held in London. I welcome the contingents from abroad who have come to take part in the competitions and displays, and whose friendly rivalry cannot fail to act as a healthy stimulant to the boys of all countries. "I am fully alive to the great benefits, both moral and physical, which the Boy Scout training assures, and recognise the admirable results already achieved under your direction. I wish the gathering all possible success.

Let me introduce JUNÁK - the Association of the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides in the Czech Republic. Our organization was founded by A.B.Svojs¡k in 1911. JUNÁK was banned after the Nazi occupation in 1940, after the communist coup in 1948, and after the Soviet occupation of our country in 1970. Scouts were persecuted, but all that time, Scouting had been continued here, even illegally. Since 1989 we have existed legally again. At the moment we are members of IFOFSAG and WAGGGS (they accept our guides as a founder member). We are not yet members of the WOSM (We were members as former Czechoslovak Scouting, before the separation of Czechoslovakia into the Czech Republic and Slovakia in 1993). We are one Scouting organization (one organization, one administration, but two different programs: one for Boy Scouts and one for Girl Guides. There is no coeducation). At the moment our organization has approximately 70,000 members (our country has got 10,000,000 citizens). We are divided into program groups by age. We use these age ranks :

Scouting Jamboree In my modest, quiet, unassuming, reticent and altogether English way, I have to tell you that you are probably about to see the biggest, rarest and best lead Jamboree in the world! (No kidding.) Each and every piece is pre-war - and they usually have had to be bought one at a time. The Cubs are of course on their way to the Jamboree. These two Charbens' sets are as rare as hens' teeth, you are looking at the only examples I have ever seen and I was very lucky to come by them both. Scout soapbox derbies were a feature of both US and British Scout life up to the fifties, but I haven't heard of any over the last twenty years - Scouts are now all into making robots! The more conventional way of arriving at camp. The Scout pulling the trekcart is by Britains , has hands made to accommodate the shafts of the cart. The cart can be completely dismantled and is just like the one I once pushed to camp! Up above the Trekcart in the tree is a Britains Scout with an axe - you will see his hand is formed to grasp around the branch. This is the only Britains Scout not to have a conventional rectangular flat lead base. He is totally free-standing on the tree, but quite safe.

Lessons from the Varsity of Life, 1933

Last-Modified: 17 May 1998 I NOW started on my second life in this world. I had definitely left the Army in 1910. I was now settling down to be a good citizen as a Warden of the Mercers' Company (N.B.-A Mercer, like a poet, is born such, he is not made); and the Boy Scout movement had started itself and was finding its feet far and wide. This, though it promised to be the biggest job of my life, was at the same time the easiest since everybody connected with it met me more than half-way with their keenness. In 1912 all was going smoothly and well when out of the blue an entirely new kind of bomb suddenly caught me in the midriff! DOUBLE HARNESS It was in this way. During my first life I had had my time fairly fully occupied, with little leisure for thinking of such extraneous matters as marriage; indeed, I had been railed by my best friend, "Ginger" Gordon, 15th Hussars, on being a confirmed old bachelor; and when I said that I had no desire to get married and I felt sure that nobody would desire to marry me, he looked at me quizzically for a space and then remarked, with the laugh of one who knew: "You'll get it in the neck one day when you least expect it. Old boy!" And I did.

Section Two The ideas of the movement also caught on among girls, and they very much wanted to be part of it. However, as children's activities were usually gender exclusive at the time, the idea of girls joining Boy Scouts just wasn't acceptable. Girls had to form their own group, which became known as Girl Guides. Here's an account of how one Girl Guide troop started: "In the early spring of 1910 a company of Scouts was formed at St. James Church in Vancouver. Phyl Munday could not see why boys alone should be able to enjoy such a movement, so she asked the Scoutmaster if they could have a troop of Girl Scouts. Evidently this was not acceptable, so Phyl bullied her mother into becoming their Scout Mistress." Not Just Pin Money, p. 221. Tofino Girl Guides,
ca. 191-

Like Boy Scouts, Girl Guides quickly became popular even in small towns. Although Guides shared similar aims as Scouts, many Guide activities often focused on feminine occupations. While Scouts might earn badges for boating, camping, fitness, and first aid, Guides could work towards badges in cooking, needlework, laundry and child care.
The objectives of Boy Scouts and Girl Guides are diverse. According to the Canadian Scout Handbook, Boy Scouts and Girl Guides is a "club, gang, society and a movement" all rolled into one. They define their purpose as follows:

SCOUTING IN INDIA
  • THE BHARAT SCOUTS AND GUIDES ALL INDIA BOY SCOUTS ASSOCIATION
Scouting was officially founded in India in 1909, shortly after its founding in the United Kingdom. Scouting first started at the Bishop Cotton’s Boys School in Bangalore. In 1916, a Cub section was started, followed by the Rover section in 1918. Scouting for native Indians was started by V.V.N.Bose, Madanmohan Malvia, Hridyanath Kunju, Dr.Annie Beasant and G.S.Arundale, in 1913. Prior to this date, Scouting was only for British and foreign Scouts. The Bharat Scouts and Guides was officially formed on November 7, 1950 and Scout activities began on August 18,1951. Prior to the Bharat Scouts and Guides, there were several Scout Associations operating in India. In 1909, Indians were not permitted to join Scouting. Only the British were allowed to be Scouts. They started a Scout organization named, "the Boy Scouts of India". Later, Indians were given permission to start Scouting. They formed an organization of their own named, "Hindustan Scouts". The Girl Guides had an organization of their own named, "Girl Guides of India." After India’s independence, The Bharat Scouts and Guides was formed. The Bharat Scouts and Guides became a member of the World Bureau (WOSM) in 1938.

SCOUTING IN ICELAND ICELANDIC BOY AND GIRL SCOUT ASSOCIATION Guiding commenced in 1922 as the YWCA established a group of Girl Guides on July 7th that year. As Iceland became an independent Kingdom in personal union with Denmark in 1918, it was possible for Icelanders and Icelandic associations to join international organizations. One of the first Associations of the new Kingdom to do this, was the Boy Scout Association, which joined the World Movement in 1924. The Icelandic Girl Guides joined the WAGGGS in 1928. Icelandic scouts have been present at all International Jamborees since Ermelunden 1924. Icelandic scouts have been very active in international Scouting, working together with the Nordic countries, effective in the preparation of the Nordjamb 1975 (World Scout Jamboree in Norway), and participating in annual program prepared by the Nordic Scout Council. National Jamborees have been an integral part of Icelandic scouting starting in 1925. Ever since the National Jamboree has been an interesting event at first every 4th year and now a triennial event. There are about 5,000 registered members in all program sections as of 7/1999.
