Geography of France
France is the largest country in western Europe and is shaped like a star. The geography of France is very diverse. It has everything from the Alps, to beautiful warm beaches and even glaciers. France has a very centralized traffic system. Everything is going into our out of Paris. Paris is the heart of France and is one of the most popular and well known cities in the world. France has an area of 550 000 sq. km. and is a medium seized country on the world scale. Of this area, 56.7% are used for agriculture, 26.7% are forest, 0.3% water, and 16.4% for the rest. Although France is twice as big as Germany, only 57.7 million people live in France. Its neighboring countries to the north are Belgium and Luxembourg, to the east Germany and Switzerland, to the southeast Italy, and to the southwest Spain. France is generally subjected to maritime influences, particularly low fronts from the Atlantic which bring abrupt changes in the weather. The four main climate zones in France are the oceanic (mild winters, cool summers), semi-continental (cold winters, hot and stormy sumer weather), Mediterranean (hot and dry summers, mild winters), and the mountain climate zone (cold summer and winter). The seasons are quite distinct everywhere in France, but there are marked contrasts between coastal areas and the interior of the country, as there are between north and south.

Geography France is endowed with a number of exceptional geographic features which, throughout its history, have greatly contributed to its economic development and its place in the international arena. They include the remarkable balance and rich diversity of its natural environment, and a privileged location on the map which predestines it to be a world crossroads. A Strategic Location An Essential Link in Europe France is part of Europe and, more particularly, of the European Union. Founded in 1957 by the Treaty of Rome, the EU originally included six countries (France, the former Federal Republic of Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg). It now consists of fifteen countries. It is not an overstatement to say that France is a cornerstone of Europe by reason of: Its size: as stated earlier, measured on a world scale, France is not among the largest countries but, within the framework of Europe, the position is different; France is, in fact, the largest country in the EU and represents 16% of its total area. It is larger than Germany or Italy and twice as large as the United Kingdom.

92. AvenueFrance -- Savez Vous - Geography Of France- Loire Valley
Loire Valley. The geography of france, cities, places to travelin france, the culture. THE LOIRE VALLEY CHINON
http://www.avenuefrance.com/loire.html
THE LOIRE VALLEY:
CHINON L'Histoire
Chinon is a picturesque little town of 10,000, on the banks of the river Vienne, 45 kilometers south of Tours in the heart of Touraine, which is called the "Garden of France" and the "Cradle of the French Language".
It is also full of history, once the residence of the King of England, Henry II Plantagenet, when that part of France was under English rule. And it became the residence of Charles VII, the heir of the throne of France in the early 1400's. It was in the Château de Chinon that Joan of Arc first recognized the disguised dauphin (later Charles VII) in 1429 and persuaded him to give her an army in order to drive the English out of France.
Chinon is also the birthplace of François Rabelais, the Renaissance man, monk, doctor, philosopher, and writer, creator of Gargantua. First a Gallic site, then Roman, the castle continued to be built during the X, XIII, XIV and XV centuries. The Platagenet kings of England had elected this castle as their favorite residence. Henry the II, Richard the Lionhearted and John Lackland all lived here from 1154 to 1204. This is where Charles VII received Joan of Arc in 1429. From the top of the castle is a magnificent view over the old city and the Vienne Valley. There is also a small Joan of Arc Museum.

Geography KS3 Unit 17 (Year 9) - The changing economic geography of France
In this unit pupils learn about patterns of economic activity in France and their impact. Although the unit is based on France, the key questions and most of the activities could be adapted for any similar more economically developed country (MEDC). Pupils could also work in groups and study different MEDCs and compare their findings.
More able pupils could be given more freedom to organise their investigation, for example they could be asked to select a country, and a region within that country, that would be most suitable for the location of a factory of a transnational corporation (TNC).
This unit is expected to take 12-20 hours.

A HISTORY of FRANCE F rance is an independent nation in Western Europe and the center of a large overseas administration. It is the third-largest European nation (after Russia and Ukraine). I n ancient times France was part of the Celtic territory known as Gaul or Gallia. Its present name is derived from the Latin Francia, meaning "country of the Franks," a Germanic people who conquered the area during the 5th century, at the time of the fall of the Western Roman Empire. It became a separate country in the 9th century.
