Foreign Language Classes
Students in a language course are also learning about the way of life of people who speak the language. The overt teaching of culture may be minimal, but it is impossible to teach the use of the familiar versus the formal you in Italian, German, or Russian, for example, without reference to the sociocultural situation.
While various methods of language teachingaudiovisual, cognitive code, and grammar translationhave been proposed to accommodate these various goals, the trend today is generally toward eclecticism according to class goals. You should consult with your supervising instructor about the general orientation of the program and attempt to follow the accepted practices in your department. You may also observe other classes and read in the various available resources to refine your own ideas on the best way for you to teach a foreign language.
Planning
Most good instructors learn to think ahead about what they want their students to learn and how they want them to demonstrate this knowledge or skill. You can best accomplish this by planning an entire unit at a time. Even if you must later change your plans radically, you will find that planning far in advance helps you pace the lessons and prevents both neglect of important information and loss of things to do. Furthermore, if you know how you are going to test your students, you can gear your instruction and their practice toward that goal. Advance planning can also help you to integrate the diverse material covered in your course. Students understandably shun instructors who first explain direct object pronouns, then do one exercise on them, jump to an irregular verb, attempt to inspire free conversation based on the above, and finally give a test involving translation.

WHAT IS FLEX?
Most FLEX programs aim to give students a foundation for foreign language study; some programs introduce basic phrases in a number of languages in order to sharpen listening skills and familiarize students with the notion that thoughts can be expressed in another language. These programs often help students to decide which language to study in later grades. They may also serve to boost language enrollment in a school system. FLEX courses frequently offer cultural information that can help students develop an appreciation of other societies and customs. In some cases, the primary focus is on world cultures; these programs are usually incorporated into the social studies curriculum. Students should not expect to achieve fluency in a language at the end of a FLEX course. It is important that both students and parents are clear on this point. According to Lipton (1992), "FLEX is primarily a language/culture/motivational program."

Providing new solutions for teaching foreign language courses in Spanish, English, French, German, Japanese, Russian and Latin for children and adults. Home About Sample Methods - Diglot View All Products ... Contact The Diglot Weave, from the Greek di, meaning two, and glot, meaning language, is a breakthrough in language learning. This methodology smoothly weaves the new language into the learners' own, taking them from the familiar to the unfamiliar. Gradually moving from their own language to the target language quickly builds comprehension skills and increases confidence.
The History of Diglot Weaves
Professor Rudy Lentulay of Bryn Mawr University was invited to teach a class in Russian for twenty minutes a day, two days a week, to kindergarten children. He hesitated to accept the invitation because he doubted children could learn any significant amount of language under such a limited schedule. Professor Lentulay decided to make a word game that even small children could play out of learning Russian. He accepted the job. Professor Lentulay made telling stories the focus of the course. Each week, he told a story with Russian words sprinkled sparsely, then more abundantly, each story using vocabulary employed in previous stories.

Wel come to Jinan Foreign Language School
School Introduction J inan Foreign Language School (JFLS) was founded in 1989. It is located in the city of Jinan, the capital city of Shandong Province. In Shandong Province, it is the only foreign language school registered in the State Education Ministry. In 2001, Jinan Foreign Language School became one of the 17 high schools all round China that have been authorized by the State Education Ministry with qualification to recommend their graduates directly to major universities in China. The school has now developed into an educational group with kindergarten, primary school, high school, adult and social educational programs. JFLS has been devoting itself to exchanges and co-operation with foreign countries. Up till now, friendly co-operative relationship has been established with many foreign universities and educational institutes in the USA, Japan, Canada, Russia, Australia , France and the U.K. The school, as a window school in Shandong Province, becomes popular with more and more educators and teachers around the world. Therefore, many of them have come and enjoyed their teaching experience here. The school implements the curriculum designed by the State Education Ministry, while stressing the teaching characteristics in foreign languages and it pays much attention to developing students' practical listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities. Now English, Japanese and Russia are taught as foreign languages at the school and the language lessons are given in small classes with a size of 16-25 students. The school adopts original foreign textbooks and foreign teachers present some of the lessons. Now every year the school has 25-30 foreign teachers coming from the USA, the UK, Canada, Australia, Japan, France and Russia.

The Center for Language and Learning supports and administers the Modified Foreign Language classes in the College of Arts and Sciences, with the collaboration of instructors, learning disabilities specialists and researchers from Classics, Modern Foreign Languages, Speech Language and Hearing Science, and Disability Services. History: In 1988, a student taking her third semester of Latin also enrolled in a class about Learning Disabilities, taught by Dr. Doris Downey . This student had succeeded in her first and second semester of Latin, but was struggling with the final semester, spending a great deal of effort to earn a C. Based on what she was learning in her class about Learning Disabilities, she “diagnosed” herself as LD and declared to her Latin instructor that she was going to drop the third semester and should be granted a waiver. Why Teach English?
Becoming an English teacher will not only be a challenging and rewarding opportunity in itself, but also a means toward attaining other goals. It enables those who want more than a superficial tourist's view of a country to find work so they can settle in for a longer stay. Taking a Certificate course will also enable those interested in teaching as a career to get some first hand experience in the field before having to invest thousands of dollars in graduate school. If you choose to teach English overseas, you will also benefit from the fact that many companies and graduate schools tend to value international experience. People who have lived overseas are able to offer an international perspective and awareness that is often an asset both in the classroom and in the professional world. Whatever your ultimate career interests, the self-knowledge and cultural awareness gained by living and working in another part of the world will be invaluable to you in the long term. I speak English pretty well. Why do I need a certificate to get a job?

Good TEFL Jobs, Good Salaries,
Great Locations The advantages of teaching English abroad
There is a huge global demand for qualified English teachers. Salaries for entry level teachers are above the median earning standard for the country in which you will be teaching. Private free-lance tutoring can bring in enough extra to allow you to save a comfortable amount. Although there have been some recent financial problems in Asian countries, you may still be able to save a comfortable amount each month, especially in Japan and Korea. American citizens with teaching qualifications are in high demand in almost all countries in Latin America. Mexico has moved to the front of the list since NAFTA. Asia continues to be a very high demand area, with Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Thailand in the forefront. China has also surged forward in offering job openings for English teachers. Vietnam has recently joined the list of Asian countries needing teachers. Eastern Europe and Northern Africa are strong job-hunting areas (Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt). The more educational degrees you have in any field, the more in demand you will be, especially in Asia.
Requisite Training
Teachers of English are in high demand throughout the world, but it is becoming more and more difficult for those who have no training to simply go abroad and find a job. Our program provides the building blocks you need to begin a new career. First, we provide both theoretical and practical training in the techniques of teaching a foreign language as well as a thorough review of English grammar itself, all of which are essential to anyone who wants to work as an English teacher, either at home or abroad.

It is worthwhile for a teacher to be aware of the recent main theories of learning so that he can form insights into his own situation and perhaps improve his effectiveness as a teacher. WHY LEARN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE?
Learning a foreign language can help you:
  • Expand, enhance or find a rewarding career
  • Communicate more effectively in the workplace
  • Open doors to exciting travel opportunities
  • Develop a greater understanding of other people and cultures
  • Stay intellectually challenged At Creative Language Center, we believe the cliches are true: the world is becoming a smaller place; companies are doing business in a global economy; the understanding and acceptance of other cultures will lead to a happier life and a safer planet. Nowhere are these trends more evident than in Austin, where the growth in population diversity has been enormous. The Hispanic population has surged this decade, growing at a rate of almost 21 a day in Travis County, where Hispanics make up one-fourth of the population. Projections show that a majority of the state's population will be non-Anglo by 2008. These changes are manifesting themselves in the workplace, in schools, in advertising, in the social and cultural scene, in nearly every aspect of our daily lives. In the face of these changes, there is going to be one key to success: COMMUNICATION. Those able to communicate effectively in both a diverse American society and in a smaller global environment will be the most successful in their personal and professional lives.
