Features of the Collections
Over 15,000 sheet maps and aerial photographs are housed in the library’s contemporary map collection. These cartographic materials are supplemented by a collection of over 500 atlases and a contemporary geographic file that contains small-scale country, state, and city maps. Additional maps are selected as appropriate for the academic needs of the university (e.g., aerial photographs of the panhandle area and photographs of flight lines over local coastal areas). Other aerial photographs provide coverage of an entire county (or significant portions) over various time frames. There are a number of map sites on the Internet listed on the ELi Maps page Historic maps of Florida and the west Florida region are also available at the UWF library in the Special Collections Department Back to Top Show Menu

We provide a number of resources (databases and online journals) that may be accessed only by University of West Florida (UWF) students, faculty and staff. If you wish to use these resources from off-campus, we must authenticate you as a valid user before connecting you to the service. You may be prompted for your Nautilus Card number when you first try to connect to a database. This is the 14-digit number found under the barcode on the bottom of your Nautilus Card ID. The login screen will always show the image of the Nautilus Card you see here. UWF Distance Learners may instead enter their Library Access Number . For more details on services to distance learners, see our Access for Distance Learners page. Log Me In Now! NOTE: At times, you may find yourself unable to get into a database or other online resource because you weren't prompted for your Nautilus Card number. To get in, back up to the UWF Library page that had the link to the database you want to use and click on the link in the navigation bar at the top of the page. After you've been validated, click on the database link again to connect to it.

Mission Statement Support and the Libraries' Strategic Plan
    • Financial Customer and User Satisfaction Internal Processes Innovation and Learning
    The new objectives are:
    • Adopt and demonstrate a 5-star, user-centered service mentality that directs all staff activity toward delivering resources and services to patrons when and where they are needed, at the appropriate intellectual level and in the format desired. Develop a system of financial, developmental and amenity incentives to recruit, recognize and retain staff at all levels. Increase staff influence on organizational outcomes within the library and throughout the university Create new and renovated library spaces that offer an inviting "relax and read" environment designed to encourage intellectual interaction.
The innovation and learning perspective requires a greater role for the staff development program in the future endeavors of the Libraries for increasing quality consciousness, learning improved customer service techniques, acquiring a better knowledge of university governance, procedures and committees, and acquiring a better understanding of marketing library services. * Training reinforces what we want for each individual: continuous learning, application of learning.

The Information Technology Competency Series and the UF Computer Challenge
The Information Technology Competency Series is a good example of a "best practice" in the Libraries. The ongoing development of electronic competencies of UF Libraries staff is a high priority. Learning technology skills and acquiring knowledge in appropriate areas is vital in keeping library staff informed and effective in performing job tasks. An additional benefit for the Libraries and for the staff is that the staff have the opportunity to share their expertise with their colleagues. The Staff Development Committee has defined three levels of information technology competencies: The Library has recently joined the Campus-wide training initiative, UF Computer Challenge . Computer Challenge gives university employees some recommended structure when pursuing their information technology training goals. The series involves three tracks: End User/Desktop Skills Certificate, IT Provider Certificate and a specifically designed certificate (the Libraries will offer a Library Track Certificate). The Libraries is making available its trainers and computer training room to the rest of campus in participating in this program. Prepared by:
