By Celeste D. Johnson, M.A./December 2000 Full paper in PDF format (the easiest way to print this paper)
Abstract
How the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Applies to Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students contains a vast amount of information regarding the law, its implementing regulations, and its particular implications for families with children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Since many people do not have much experience with this kind of material, the author encourages readers to review it again and again and to print a hard copy to refer as necessary. This document contains the exact wording (relevant to each discussion) of IDEA, its regulations, and related court cases as noted with indentations, as well as sidebars with useful Web site links for further research and clarification.
Introduction
This document is intended to give readers guidance about how IDEA applies to deaf and hard of hearing students, but it is not intended to contain legal advice. Readers should consult with an attorney regarding individual matters and how the law applies to them.

Standard of Ethical Conduct
Preamble Honesty, integrity, and caring are essential qualities of an educational institution, and the concern for values and ethics is important to the whole educational experience. Individual students and faculty and staff members, as well as the University's formal organizations must assume responsibility for these qualities. The concern for values and ethics should be expressed in classes, seminars, laboratories, and, in fact, in all aspects of University life. By definition, the University community includes members of the faculty, staff, and administration as well as students. Education at the University of Florida is not an ethically neutral experience. The University stands for, and seeks to inculcate, high standards. Moreover, the concern for values goes well beyond the observance of rules. A university is a place where self-expression, voicing disagreement, and challenging outmoded customs and beliefs are prized and honored. However, all such expressions and challenges need to be civil, manifesting respect and concern for others. As a major sector in the community, students are expected to follow the University's rules and regulations that, by design, seek to promote an atmosphere of learning. The other sectors, faculty, staff, and administration, are expected to provide encouragement and leadership as well as example.

Holocaust Education: The Florida Legislative Mandate On April 29, 1994, the Florida Legislature mandated that instruction on the subject of the Holocaust be included in public schools. The language of the mandate reveals the intent of the Legislature. Florida Statute # 1003.42 "Members of the instructional staff of the public schools, subject to the rules and regulations of the state board and of the school board, shall teach efficiently and faithfully, using the books and materials required, following the prescribed courses of study, and employing approved methods of instruction the following: The history of the Holocaust (1933-1945), the systematic, planned annihilation of European Jews and other groups by Nazi Germany, a watershed event in the history of humanity, to be taught in a manner that leads to an investigation of human behavior, an understanding of the ramifications of prejudice, racism, and stereotyping, and an examination of what it means to be a responsible and respectful person, for the purposes of encouraging tolerance of diversity in a pluralistic society and for nurturing and protecting democratic values and institutions."

Regulating the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Industry
Chapter 527, Florida Statutes, and Chapter 5F-11, Florida Administrative Code, are the primary laws governing the regulation of liquefied petroleum gas (propane) in Florida. Through these documents, we have adopted many different safety codes in order to ensure the safe handling, transportation, distribution and use of this product in Florida. To view the statutes and rules adopted by this office, simply click on the links to the left. Please remember, while every attempt is made to keep these regulations up-to-date, these should not be construed as current official language. For current text, contact your local LP gas field office or inquire at your local library for copies of these chapters of the Florida Statutes and Florida Administrative Code. Also, even though the Bureau of LP Gas Inspections is the primary authority for the regulation of LP gases in Florida, other state and local agencies may have requirements in addition to those found here. • May 19-23, 2003 @ Cocoa, Florida August 11-15, 2003 @ Cocoa, Florida November 3-7, 2003 @ Cocoa, Florida
Course Description This week-long course covers the design and installation of photovoltaic (PV) systems, and involves actual hands-on work with PV systems and equipment. This program is intended for contractors, electricians, utilities, engineers and other practitioners, with an overall goal of developing "system-knowledgeable" professionals to help ensure the safety and quality of PV system installations. The course format includes a balance of classroom instruction and student-interactive exercises. These exercises include laboratories that simulate the process of designing, installing and commissioning grid-connected PV systems, and are intended to develop the participant's working knowledge of PV systems and equipment. An emphasis is placed on code compliance and accepted state-of-the-art industry design and installation practice. Quizzes and sample problems will be given to the participants throughout the course to assess learning, and these problems will be reviewed during the course. Participants successfully completing this one-week course will be awarded a certificate of completion from the Florida Solar Energy Center.
