-Scholastic To Unveil Special Exhibit Highlighting 65 Years of Reporting on Key Events, People, and Places in the News-
New York, NY (November 25, 2002)
Scholastic, the global children's publishing and media company, today announced the celebration of the 65th anniversary of Junior Scholastic Junior Scholastic , which appeared in classrooms on September 18, 1937, to today, the magazine has provided age-appropriate coverage that helps students to understand and learn about the world around them, and offers teachers up-to-the-minute support for the entire social studies curriculum. Scholastic will mark the anniversary with a special exhibit highlighting Junior Scholastic 's 65 years of reporting for students on watershed events, political and cultural figures, trends and issues - including FDR's New Deal, World War II, the Civil Rights Movement, the Vietnam War, the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr., Watergate, the Women's Movement, child labor, the collapse of the Soviet Union and communism, September 11, and the war on terrorism. The exhibit will incorporate historic covers from past issues, significant articles, and images of prominent people and events representative of key moments in U.S. and world history. The exhibit opens to the public on Monday, December 2, 2002, in the lobby of Scholastic's world headquarters, located at 557 Broadway in New York City, and will remain on display until January 3, 2003.

The Madison Performance Series began in the Fall of 1999, and has become a strong arts education component of the Madison Campus Arts

MENTORSHIPS

The Madison Performance Series includes inviting young student performers to perform along with professional groups who act as mentors and artistic role models. This past year, the Santa Monica High School Chamber Orchestra and the Palisades High Chamber Singers performed at the Los Angeles Master Chorale performance.
MASTER CLASSES LIFELONG LEARNING COMMUNITY MURAL PROJECT The Madison Campus Arts program completed a community mural project for the visual arts in 1999. In conjunction with the Santa Monica College Emeritus Program and the Santa Monica College Community Services Program, nationally established muralist Elizabeth Sadoff designed and painted a performance arts mural for the proposed site of the new theater. Santa Monica College Emeritus College and Community Service art students were given an opportunity to participate on a community mural project that involved various aged participants working together to create an indelible, visual statement of the arts. The Mural is the backdrop for the Madison Performance Series.
