Crow See the bottom of the page for the Jan/June 1997 Stats. 1995 vs 1996 I have heard for myself, Steve Hill and John Kilpatrick stand in the pulpit and state that the crime rate has dropped in Pensacola, due in part by the revival at Brownsville. The Pentecostal Evangel reported in their November 10, 1996, edition that "the crime rate has declined. "Different figures are being reported by different people, but the facts do not support these testimonies. Please note: Brownsville Assembly of God is not located in the City limits of Pensacola it is in Escambia County. A startling result is that the Norton Police Department officers are making nearly half of the juvenile arrests in the Wise County and Norton. It is a remarkable and an alarming trend when compared to the combined neighboring communities. Norton is a small community consisting of only 8.8% of the combined populations of Norton and the communities throughout Wise County according to the 2000 Census data. The 2000 Virginia State Police Crime Reports show Norton with having a record of making over 42% of the juvenile arrests in the Wise County court system. Norton's population is 3,904 compared to Wise County's 40,123. The difference is size makes reasonable explanations difficult for juvenile arrest rates approaching half of Wise County and Norton combined. Some officials write-off the startling statics with Norton being a popular youth culture hub; or, the convergence of U.S. 23 and U.S. 58-Alternate with Wal-Mart. What students should know about campus crime stats By Tom Collins Arizona Daily Wildcat October 25, 1996 Despite a decline in 1995, theft continues to be the top crime at the UA. "This a great shopping center for the outside community to come and get computers, bicycles and money," University of Arizona Police Lt. Brian Seastone said. There were 563 thefts in 1995 down from 668 in 1994, according to UAPD statistics. The decrease, Seastone said, can be attributed to students becoming more aware and pro-active in the protection of their possessions, calling police to report suspicious activity, and to the arrests that UAPD has made. Burglary is the conscious removal of material from buildings, Seastone said, but contrary to many student and parent opinions, the UA residence halls are not the most often hit. Most burglaries of residence halls involve laundry or smaller items taken when a door is left unlocked, for example, Seastone said. He said offices around campus are most often burglarized for high value items. Through August 1996, there have been 105 burglaries throughout campus, and 511 thefts, including bicycle thefts, Seastone said.

Media Releases Metro Nashville Police Department FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 31, 2003 All totaled, violent and property crimes during 2002 dropped to their lowest levels since 1999. In a related major development, Chief Turner also announced that despite a nearly 2% increase in calls for police service from 2001 to 2002, response time (the time from when a call is answered at the Communications Center to the time an officer arrives on the scene) dropped by more than 20%. The 2002 statistics show that murder dropped to its lowest level since 1970; robbery and burglary dropped to their lowest levels since 1999; larceny (theft) dropped to its lowest level since 1991; and auto theft dropped to its lowest level since 1993. Robbery was the crime category showing the most substantial decrease from 2001 to 2002. It declined 18.3%. Detectives cite their success in arresting several serial robbers during the year as one major reason for the decline. The percentage probability of a citizen becoming the victim of one of the seven major crime categories continues to remain very low. The 2002 percentage probabilities for each category were: Murder (0.011%); Rape (0.18%); Robbery (0.37%); Aggravated Assault (1.05%); Burglary (1.295%); Larceny (4.40%); and Auto Theft (0.845%). During calendar year 2002, the men and women of the Metropolitan Police Department made 39,349 arrests, a 10.5% increase over the year 2001.
