WELCOME! BIENVENUE! BIENVENIDOS! Created in 1994 in response to calls for action from local authorities, the ICPC’s mission is to assist cities and countries to reduce delinquency, violent crime and insecurity. The ICPC bridges the gaps between decision-makers, practitioners and researchers. It helps put knowledge into action by:
  • making the knowledge base for effective crime prevention and community safety better known and more accessible worldwide.
  • encouraging the use of inspiring practices and empowering tools to produce community safety.
  • fostering challenging exchanges between countries and cities, criminal justice institutions and community-based organizations.
  • providing technical assistance and networking.
The ICPC is governed by a Board of Directors and General Assembly of Members, combining the competence of governments, cities, prevention experts, the private sector and specialized institutes from around the world. The ICPC is managed by a small team of experienced officers and staff. General Crime Prevention Tips
The reason crime happens is well known. Crime happens because there is a criminal to commit the crime, a victim who can be victimized by the criminal and the location or opportunity for a crime to occur.
You can reduce the likelihood of being the victim of criminal activity if you take away the OPPORTUNITY for the criminal to make you his victim.
AT HOME:

Install solid core wood or metal doors on all exterior door openings
Always lock all windows and doors when going out. This includes short trips next door or out to the mailbox.
Do not place keys in hidden locations.
Keep all landscaping trimmed back to allow a clear view onto the property. Shrubs should be at 36" or lower, trees and tall plants should have at least 6" clear below. Do not allow plants to obstruct the view of windows and doorways.
Know your neighbors - be aware of who belongs and who does not belong.

Juvenile Crime Prevention Councils
General Statute General Statue 143B-543 sets out that it is the intent of the General Assembly to develop community based alternatives to youth development centers and to provide community based delinquency and substance abuse prevention strategies and programs. The statute also says that the General Assembly intends to provide non-institutional disposition alternatives that will protect the community and juveniles. These programs and services are to be planned at the local level by local Juvenile Crime Prevention Councils (JCPCs) in partnership with the state. DJJDP Regional Consultants from the Prevention/Intervention Division provide technical assistance and support to each Juvenile Crime Prevention Council, to county government for juvenile justice planning and fiscal management and to local programs for program development and compliance with operating and performance standards. The Intervention and Prevention Division state office provides overall program planning and management to assure uniform service standards, coordinates and provides training and consultation for local staff, collects data, responds to legislators’ and other requests for information or recommendations, and develops policies and procedures for the Division. The Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention through the Intervention Division, manages aid to county funds allocated from the North Carolina General Assembly for county government development and continuation of local juvenile justice programs as planned and recommended by the Juvenile Justice Crime Prevention Councils.

FOR RELEASE
March 5, 2001
NATIONAL CRIME PREVENTION CENTRE FUNDS TWENTY-SEVEN CRIME PREVENTION PROJECTS IN YUKON "Preventing crime before it happens is the best way to reduce crime rates and to ensure the safety of our streets and homes," said Mr. Bagnell. "These thoughtful projects prove that Yukon residents possess the skills and ingenuity to act early against crime and victimization." "I am pleased to see Yukon communities establishing projects to address the root causes of crime," said Justice Minister Pam Buckway. "We need to support community education and healing initiatives if we are to provide a more promising future for our children and our youth." "Communities are at the forefront of crime prevention because they know best what the local needs are," said Mr. Bagnell. "It is encouraging to see that the people of Yukon are involved in these crime prevention projects, and are taking an active interest in community safety." The National Strategy, which takes an early intervention approach to crime prevention and community safety, supports innovative, grass-roots responses to the problems of crime and victimization. The projects will help Yukon communities develop and implement solutions to the factors that contribute to crime and victimization; factors that include child abuse, neglect, and substance abuse, among others. While many of the projects deal with youth at-risk and promote a multidisciplinary approach to crime prevention, they all seek to address the root causes of crime and victimization.

CRIME PREVENTION A Message from Allegheny County Sheriff PETE DEFAZIO “The Allegheny County Sheriff's Office is deeply committed to serving the residents of Allegheny County in as many ways as possible with the limited personnel of the department. It is our continued intention to provide the best possible service at the lowest possible cost without sacrificing the quality of such services. “As the Chief Law Enforcement Officer in Allegheny County, I believe I have a responsibility to take a pro-active approach to fighting crime, and there is no question in my mind that our efforts in Crime Prevention and Community-Oriented Policing are extremely effective in educating our citizens in ways to prevent crime, and avoid being victims of crimes.
"The Allegheny County Sheriff's Office participation in Community Relations, Crime Prevention and Community-Oriented Police Services is quite extensive. Our programs provide many beneficial services to a large segment of County residents of various age groups on a broad range of law enforcement and safety topics. Most importantly, perhaps, is our emphasis on citizen involvement in the fight against crime.
“We in the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office will do everything we can to fight crime and protect our citizens. And what’s more, in Allegheny County, we have perhaps the best system of local, municipal law enforcement in the whole country. I am not aware of any community in the United States where local law enforcement is so community-oriented and pro-active as our borough, township and city police officers in Allegheny County. But short of putting a police officer on every corner of every street in this county, law enforcement officers cannot do the job alone. We need and want active citizen participation in our Crime Prevention efforts. Together, we can help ensure that this remains one of the safest communities in America.”

Welcome to Hampshire Horsewatch Hampshire Horsewatch was set up in September 2000 to work in partnership with Hampshire Constabulary to prevent and reduce equine related crime. Hampshire Horsewatch is part of the national Horsewatch Scheme. The success of any Horsewatch Scheme revolves around the dedication of its members. Their commitment to their animals provides a basis on which to build a range of measures which can help to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime. In many cases, dedication alone will not be sufficient. A range of proven security measures have therefore been developed to help support the horse owner and prevent the theft of horses and tack. The following information gives general guidance on a whole range of security measures covering horses, tack, trailers, horseboxes and stables Crime prevention measures which you can take yourself HORSE PASSPORT Take colour photographs of your animal in summer and winter. Crime prevention cameras (CCTV)
    in public places
    Policy 2002/1 (replaces Policy 1995/9)
    1 Introduction
Police may support local authorities and other groups wanting to install closed circuit television cameras in public places for crime prevention purposes. The objective of installing the cameras is to reduce the incidence of crime and disorder, so members of the community feel safe when visiting the public areas covered by the cameras. Crime prevention cameras are not used to maintain surveillance on individuals or groups - they are to prevent and detect criminal offences in identified high crime areas. Cameras are used for the deterrence or immediate detection of criminal offences and must be operated in a manner that complies with the Privacy Act 1993 and this policy.
    2 Application of policy
This policy applies to crime prevention cameras installed at fixed sites in public places for a general crime prevention purpose and monitored by police. It also applies to significant expansions of existing crime prevention camera systems and to trials of new systems. The camera system will normally be owned by the local authority or other group and operated in conjunction with police.
