    27. About Steam & Electric Locomotives Of The New Haven Railroad, Thomas J. Dodd Res
the Fred Otto Makowsky Collection, held in Archives Special Collections at theThomas J. Dodd Research Center of the University of connecticut libraries.
    http://railroads.uconn.edu/locomotives/about.htm
    About the Digital Collection
The entire Fred Otto Makowsky Collection consists of several thousand images of railroad locomotives and scenes associated with the New Haven Railroad, taken by Mr. Makowsky throughout his lifetime. For the purposes of the project we chose just 460 photographs from the several thousand. There were several reasons why so relatively few images were chosen, most significantly that the project was considered, from the outset, as a pilot project and learning experience for the project manager and others involved with its formation. To keep the project manageable and to result in a product that was deliverable in the one year allocated for its creation, the number of images was kept low to allow the project team time to learn the methods and trials-and-errors necessary for the successful completion of a digital project. There were many steps that were taken along the way to get to the final product. The first step in the making of the digital project was to deal with the actual materials, and that involved processing and describing the images. Each photograph, was removed from the albums and placed in an archival quality mylar photo sleeve. To retain the integrity of the order that Mr. Makowsky had placed them, each of the images was given a consecutive and unique identifier and then described in a database.
