You do not have to be a computer whiz to successfully integrate technology into your lesson plans. Furthermore, there are many aspects of instructional technology that do not require advanced computer skills (e.g., instructional design, needs assessment, evaluation). However, there are some basic skills that are necessary to facilitate your success in integrating technology into your lesson plans. This checklist is provided to help you determine if you have the basic computer skills necessary. If you do not have one or more of these skills, we suggest that you gain these skills by attending one of the basic skills workshops being offered by UHCL. First Name: Last Name: Name of Campus/

Keyboarding with Boxers To encourage my keyboarding students to learn good touch keying and not look at their fingers, I ask them to bring a cute pair of boxer shorts to class. They put the computer keyboard through the elastic and sit it on their desk. They put their hands through the legs and position them correctly on the keyboard. Off they go! They think it's cool and it encourages good keying technique since they can't see and really have to concentrate on their sense of touch."

Grade 8-12 Subject: Integrated Algebra/Geometry I, Algebra I, Algebra IPart 2, Geometry and Algebra II Description: This is a two-period (80-minutes) class is to be conducted with groups, preferably of new learners grouped with more advanced students in Geometry and Algebra II. The students new to this subject are to reenforce their learning in manipulating equations to obtain the slope-intercept form while the advanced students assist and at the same time review their prior learning from past years. Then students are to explain the significance of the slope and intercepts and changes to these two attributes. The period begins with board work lecture demonstration by the teacher, then group problem sheet, then demo on computer by the teacher, then a practical lab on the computer by students in groups. All followed by lab homework (using the computer or alternately the graphing calculator). Purpose: To teach (or review) the slope-intercept form of linear equations, have students able to transform equations into the slope-intercept form, and impart an understanding of the meaning of the slope and of the intercept. Objectives: As a result of this activity, the students will:

Keyboard instruments belong to two basic groups, those that simply trigger or pluck a note like the harpsichord and organ, and those that are responsive to the strength of the musicians touch on the keys like the piano, clavinet and clavichord.
Piano's are built with pedals which sustain or mute notes by moving and stricking soft hammers onto the strings inside the piano which a good player can utilize to create atmosphere and expression.
Organs use a series of buttons along with keys and pedals to create a wide range of sounds, a development also used in the creation of modern keyboard that also combines buttons, switches and keys to produce waveforms and sounds including everything from a Grand Piano to Strings, Brass and complete Drum Kits sounds on one instrument.
Synthesizers, electronic piano's and keyboards are available in a variety of sizes with or without touch sensitive keys and a range of effects, sounds, drum patterns, song styles and some have options for playing full chords by depressing one note.
