Bachelor of Music in Combination with an Outside Field
This program allows you to combine music with a sequence of courses in another discipline, such as audio production, scriptwriting, advertising and public relations, computer science, economics, or mathematics. Thus you'll have the maximum flexibility to tailor your degree to suit your interests and career plans. About half your courses will be in music; the other half will be a combination of liberal arts study and courses in your chosen outside field
Degree Requirements
Specific requirements for the degree program are found in the Ithaca College undergraduate catalog.
Bachelor of Music in Composition
The composition program features guest composers and a state-of-the-art electronic and computer studio. In addition, the contemporary chamber ensemble performs student works, and student composers study and work with a distinguished composer in residence as part of the Karel Husa Visiting Professor of Composition series. Guest composers such as John Corigliano, Christopher Rouse, Joan Tower, and John Harbison present master classes, critique student work, and give lectures on their own works, and music school ensembles perform the visiting composers' works. The broad-based and practical approach of the composition program affords you the opportunity to study with some of the country's leading composers, to hear your own music performed by skilled musicians and ensembles, and to enrich your traditional composition study with writing experiences in popular American styles and commercial media.

Colors and Music Do some music composers assoicate notes with specific colors? Do some music composers assoicate notes with specific colors? I read that some music composers associated the notes with specific colors (ex:f=green). I want to know if you have any references (other than Scriabin) of such composers and/or if there is a standard on what note can be associated with what color and if painters (other than Kandinski) tried to play music through their pieces. I reccommend that you check out the Synaesthesia web site for information on this (synaesthesia is when an individual makes cross-connections between senses, for example seeing music in terms of different colours). A terrific place to start is John Gage's Color and Culture, with a big chapter on this issue. Of course, Myles Davis is another who associated them.

ARTO WIKLA'S MUSIC PAGE
Location: http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/~wikla/music.html Description: Arto's site is dedicated to a hodge-podge of early music information, including his special love - the lute and its compositions. In fact, most of the actual information (as opposed to links to other sites) is dedicated to Arto and his lutes, including pictures, compositions, lute composers of the late medieval/early renaissance period, a program that enables you to compose your own lute continuo, etc. The site does have an enormous number of links to other informational sites which Arto has described in enough detail so that the browser does not get lost in the maze of early music information. Since it is Arto's site, his emphasis on the lute is understandable if a little annoying; his site provides some specific information which is useful if you have specific questions; otherwise, this site is invaluable for its links to other sites, all described in brief detail. A great springboard to music on the Web. Tamara L. Farrell
