Fine Art By Michelll main gallery Colored Pencil Portraits Here is what I really love to do best! It's a very time consuming and tedious process of lightly layering between 3 and 20 layers of very finely sharpened pencil on paper to create deep interesting colors. A colored pencil portrait approximately 15x20 inches will take me roughly 100 hours to complete. I use only acid free papers of the finest quality, and artist grade pencils by Prismacolor (Berol/Sanford). Here are some samples of my colored portraits. Click on the image for a larger view. Colored Pencil Drawings Originals and Limited Edition Prints The drawing at right is just one of a collection I call Illustrated Dreams These images come purely from my imagination, often starting with a sketch of one or two lone figures. I allow the drawings to unfold on their own, letting ideas come to me as the drawing evolves. Through these images I let a deeper part of myself speak to us all. These drawings spring from a more fundamental level of consciousness. They serve to communicate through imagery and symbols different aspects of the more fundamental reality from which our reality arises and upon which it rests. In essence, these drawings are the inner self, the self that knows what it is, saying to the outer self, the self that has forgotten what it is, "Here's what's really going on." Like dreams, these drawings contain universal symbols which psychologist Carl Jung termed archetypes. Although I have personal interpretations of the drawings, I feel that the universality of the symbolism which the drawings contain give them a meaning which is unique for each individual. In these drawings as in dreams, meaning lies ultimately in the mind of the beholder, and is in no way carved in stone, or limited to one interpretation. Email address: skaufman@execpc.com
