Public Health Home Teller County Home PROGRAMS OFFERED BY PUBLIC HEALTH WIC (Women, Infants and Children): A supplemental food and nutrition education program for eligible pregnant or breast-feeding women, infants and children to the age of five. This program provides nutrition counseling, growth monitoring and supplemental foods. Prenatal Plus: A program for pregnant women on Medicaid. Referrals to obstetricians in Colorado Springs are made and these women are offered nutrition, mental health, and nursing support in Teller County. Additionally quarterly Lamaze classes and monthly prenatal classes are offered to all pregnant women in Teller County. Well Child Clinics: These clinics are available each week either at the Divide Clinic, Cripple Creek Wellness and Rehab Center or the Victor VICCI Center. Program Example Through a partnership with the University of Colorado Health Sciences, the Colorado Physical Activity and Nutrition Program is implementing two community interventions in Peetz, Colorado, which has a large rural population, and in the Denver Metro Black Churches, which allows program coordinators to work in an already established urban and African American setting to reach high-risk populations. These interventions focus on a physical activity component to encourage participants to walk 2,000 steps a day more than they walked before the program. Pedometers are offered to assist participants in their efforts. Additional worksites and community sites throughout the state are also participating. The intervention will introduce a nutrition component as well, most likely promoting a 5 A Day campaign. The program has been named

Community Health Programs MASTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH ( with emphasis in community health education) The Master of Public Health in Community Health at the University of northern Colorado is the only health education program in the Rocky Mountain region accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).
