    http://www.dixiewood.com/
    Welcome To
    Dixiewood
We have two passions here at Dixiewood. Beautiful old barnwood and the War Between the States. We make Americana wall hangings of the War Between the States and State flags. But that's not to say that's all we do. More on that under "What's New".
Our love of old barnwood has led us to try to find a way to preserve old barns, and our heritage in a unique way. We are the "bone collectors" of old barns. Even when a barn has succumbed to gravity or the bulldozer, we try to salvage what we can when we can.
These old turn of the century barns have so much history to them. The trees these barns were built from were alive during the Late Unpleasantness and before. It is very rare when you can touch your history.
    The Flags
These flags are made from old barns and outbuildings erected around the turn of the century. They are routed and hand painted using our own blend of paints that are warm in color but still allow the character of the old wood to show through.
All types of wood are used; pine, oak, poplar, chestnut, hemlock, etc. The frames are made of the same, and the flags come

The highly acclaimed Virginia Civil War Trails program has recently been expanded to include Southside Virginia through the creation of the Wilson-Kautz Raid driving tour. An integral part of this new tour - indeed the ultimate goal of the Wilson-Kautz raiders - is the railroad bridge over the Staunton River, in the Staunton River Battlefield State Park . Another stop is planned at Mulberry Hill plantation, less than a mile north of Roanoke Station. Mulberry Hill served as Union headquarters during the Battle for the Bridge. In addition a stop was added in the village* of Halifax where in June of 1864 a company of home guards was mustered and pressed into service. This group of old men and young boys were rushed to the bridge which they helped defend from multiple Union Cavalry attacks.
