Child Care Licensing

The child care licensing program is a component of the services provided by Department of Children and Families. The program is accountable for the statewide licensure of Florida's child care facilities, specialized child care facilities for the care of mildly ill children, large family child care homes and licensure or registration of family day care homes. The purpose of the program is to ensure a healthy and safe environment for the children in child care settings and to improve the quality of their care through regulation and consultation. The department ensures that licensing requirements are met through on-going inspections of child care facilities and homes, thus preventing the continued operation of substandard child care programs.
Florida's child care law [§402.301-319, Florida Statutes], provides for any county whose licensing standards meet or exceed the state minimum standards [Chapters 65C-20, 65C-22 and 65C-25, Florida Administrative Code], to designate by ordinance, a local licensing agency in their county. Counties not choosing to administer their own child care licensing programs, are licensed by the Department of Children and Families (DCF).
Currently, DCF child care licensing staff are responsible for the inspection and licensure of child care facilities and homes in 58 out of 67 counties in the State of Florida as well as registration of family day care homes in those counties which do not require licensure. Nine counties have elected to regulate licensing of child care facilities and homes as provided in §402.306, Florida Statutes. Those counties are Alachua, Brevard, Broward, Hillsborough, Leon, Palm Beach, Pinellas, Polk and Sarasota. Volusia County, however, have elected to designate an independent agency to regulate only the licensure and registration of family day care homes in their county.

Welcome to the Bureau of Child Care Licensing The Bureau of Child Care Licensing ensures that children attending NH child care programs are in safe and healthy environments and are provided with care, supervision and developmentally appropriate activities that meet each child's physical and emotional needs. BCCL accomplishes this through on-site evaluations, monitoring, and investigations that ensure compliance with applicable NH Statutes and Administrative Rules, approval and issuance of licenses, and initiation of appropriate disciplinary action when necessary for compliance and the protection of children. BCCL also provides consultation and technical assistance to help understand licensing regulations to existing licensed child care providers and persons who might consider applying for a child care program license . BCCL licenses seven categories of child care programs: Family Child Care Homes, Family Group Child Care Homes, Group Child Care Centers, Child Care Nurseries, School Age Program, Night Care Programs, and Residential Child Care Programs.
  • FAMILY CHILD CARE HOME: a child care program operated in a home in which the provider resides. In a family child care home one provider may care for a maximum of 6 preschool children plus up to 3 children who are enrolled in a full-day school program. The number of children younger than 36 months of age and 24 months of age that may be cared for is limited.
